Visa exempt 30day + 30day extension + PoiPet 30day (?) + 30day extension (?)

Featured Replies

Currently: UK citizen, 40+ years old, new passport, already has a visa exempt 30day, plus 30day extension from Cheng Wattana

Can I do this...?

* Go to Poipet, in/out and get 30days again... (UK citizen)

* And following that, In 30 days time, go to Cheng Wattana again to extend it by another 30days?

You never used to be able to do back-to-backs, or it was questionable about how many and it seemingly changed with luck and from border to border etc.

Am I right that you can repeat this procedure without limits these days?

In fact, my future employer will be getting a work permit in due course, but just at this time, and prior to working, this route would suit me if its available.

As even, indebted to those who take the time to read and respond kindly. Many thanks.

  • Poipet has a limit of 90 days per year and I don't think they are keen on back to back visa exempt entries. You would be better off trying one of the Laos crossings or better still getting a tourist visa.
  • If you are successful getting a 30 day visa exempt entry you should have no problem extending it by 30 days.

There are no national limits on the number of visa exempt entries, but you probably won't get more than 2 or 3 without being questioned at length about what you do in Thailand, and if they suspect you are illegally working they can deny entry. It is no longer a viable method to stay long term.

From recent reports you will not have a problem getting another visa exempt at Poi Pet. Just one back to back will not be a problem especially since your first entry was by probably by air.

Getting a 30 day extension will also not be a problem.
