earlofwindermere Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 5:30pm Thursday evening... My relatives (who live in Green Valley Golf Course in Mae Rim - the same moobaan as Thaksin's home) just called me. They said that the police are at every intersection in Mae Rim and over 50 police and unmarked cars just drove in. Anybody have any news on this or is it just the Mrs. returning?
Tywais Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Interesting because on the canal road from the university to the Royal Flora there were lot's of parked police cars and some police actually out on the road directing traffic. Probably not related due to the distance, but never seen that before.
katnip Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Yes, police everywhere circa 5 p.m. At intersections, on motorbikes, and in cars with flashing lights.
Rinrada Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 My gardener tells me that he went out for dinner in the *********restaurant just outside C.Mai but asked me not to mention it... So I wont..... time for a beer me thinks.....
ThaiPauly Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 There were a lot of us on canal Road at 5pm yesterday then. I pulled at at the 7-11 while my Wife popped in, she had just got back to the car when a Police car raced up behind me blaring at me over his tannoy to MOVE IT! Something fishy indeed
johnnyk Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Maybe he popped over from Myanmar on a 30-day VOA.
pap Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Was that Elvis? Wonder if he got his tourist visa stamped?
earlofwindermere Posted November 10, 2006 Author Posted November 10, 2006 Nothing in the papers today... I guess it wasn't him.
ThaiPauly Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Could just be that some foreign dignatory has flown into town for the Flower Show, you know how much fuss they like to make for anybody who is important enough, and Thialand is doing everything it can to create a good impression around the world after the Coup. Maybee it was Donald Rumsfeld or Tony Blair....a good flower festival would do them the world of good

So he's a nobody now just like dear old Thaksin. Perhaps they are meeting up so Thacko can give Rumbo the latest 'intelligence' on Thailand's WMD's in return for reinstatement as CEO of Thaksinland. WMD's in this case being Women of Money Disassociation if you read some of the other posts in the general forum.
Gonzo the Face Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 At this point I guess we do not know if it was Takky or not, of just someone being escorted to the Flower Festival. For those out there who are also of the slightly bent mind set, Ms. Manners sez, flowers around ones casket should not be misconstrued as a "Flower Festival", in spite of the sometimes happy and jubilant mood of those attending. Now we are able to list below those whose demise would and should be considered a Flower Festival.... 1 2 3

Johpa Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 More likely a private visit by a Royal as such unofficial visits use to me marked by police at every intersection. Long ago one of the princesses use to enjoy dining at the old location of the Coq D'Or along Chaiyaphum, located near to the long forgotten Farang drinking establishments of the My Place bar and the old Karen Hut bar. It was probably the closest I ever got to Thai Royalty. I wonder if a Royal could still go out to a restaurant for dinner in town?
Loaded Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I was in Rimping Meechok yesterday around this time when suddenly the place filled with senior police and nurses. I looked across at the deli counter and recognized the face, it was The Princes' Ex wife (neice of the Queen) buying some chicken legs. Very surreal as some people pretended nothing was happening and others, including me, stood and stared. This could have been the reason for the activity described in the OP.

That's what I've heard as well. But then, perhaps the person who told me read it here... Anyway, there were about 30 policemen hanging around the empty parking lot behind Sailom Joy Restaurant (between chang klan and charoen prathet roads) this morning at 7.30.

I think that they have to close the whole restaraunt down except for the Royal party.
LaoPo Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I wonder if a Royal could still go out to a restaurant for dinner in town? Why not? I saw one of the Princesses some 2 years ago in the 'Coffeeshop' of the Montien Hotel at Surawongse Rd/BKK where she had lunch. The whole staff bowed when she drove off in her Audi TT (accompanied by a whole lot of other cars, following/escorting her) LaoPo

DavidOxon Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 My Girllfriend (Thai) has served him and his daughter in harrods a couple of times in the the last few weeks . . she's not impressed as me at that! D

Might of been him. Thailand has strong diplomatic relations with Bhutan and the Prince is highly regarded.
