Found a puddle of oil under the Climber this AM.

Wasn’t able to see anything in the cloudy sight tube 

and no dip stick.

so took her to shop for change.

Takes 7 decaliters, 30W

and seems like less than that drained out.

Rode ~20km single-track jungle.

Noticed more leaking after.

Like drip drip drip.

Back to shop.

Pulled right engine cover and gasket be bad.

Mechanic had none in stock 

so spent an hour + cutting one.

Back in beeswax.

Race Sunday.

papa will ride the 10K x 2 novice course.

See you there.

Why stand up when you can sit down?  Montesa 4 Ride.  Of course, after shelling out something like $7,500, my butt would hurt so bad I couldn't sit.  260cc, weighs about 180 pounds.  Actually, years ago, they had a "shepherds bike" like it.  For chasing sheep up and down mountainside pastures.

Looks like tomorrow’s race is a 25K x 2 enduro event.

No 10K.

Well, made around the 25K enduro track once,

barely.

This year both F__ Me mountain 

and Monkey mountain were run in reverse

{clockwise.)

They ran it thru some trails that motos have not been on 

in a long time 

if ever.

Nearly half was new to me.

The crux came at 23km.

Up a steep foot-trail to Lookout Mountan.

Three gnarly sections there bro.

So fun when exhaustion is already knocking.

But made it.

Over a 100 riders;

not that many trying for 2 loops.

The modern outdoor and especially indoor (X Trials?) is just too much for most mere mortals and even experienced Grade A and Clubman riders can't do half that stuff nowadays. Maybe 12-15 top riders in the world can do that shit.

You've just got to look at the numbers in the world championships, the number of rounds (what 4-5 a year?) and the lack of spectators to when Trials was at it's peak in the late 60's, throughout the 70's and 80's and into the early 90's. 10-12 world rounds, dozens of competitors and huge crowds.

The twinshock bikes (old Bultacos, Montesas, Yams etc) and pre 65 have better numbers competing these days at national levels than the modern stuff. A lot of it is the bikes are so good, so much better than most people can get out of them , and the sections have just got so difficult (read scary).

It's a big talking point on the trials forums.

rode my cow today about 15 km.

The trails are all dry and in good shape.

f.. me mountain was pretty easy considering

papa's hiatus for Vietnam.

The Climber is running strong,

great little trail bike.

Cool weather lately. ++

Pattaya area dirt riders,

Have been riding my cow a bit lately.

Starting to feel  little  more 

in control

on the Cota.

Trail riding on the Climber has been swell 

as the trails are in good shape.

The foliage is backed-off the track, 

although nearly got yanked off 

by one thorny vine, today.

 

Gun, the 7-year old rider boy where the bikes are parked:

They had to pad lock his Kawasaki because 

he would take off into the mountain without permission.

Riding the mountain today.

Did the 15K loop clockwise on the Climber ,

lunch,

then a steep 10K route on the Cota.

KMK is really super for trial riding.

 

The man where papa keeps the 2 bikes 

says that an enduro meeting is being held Sunday near Rayong.

He and Gun are going and he said 

we could throw the Climber in the truck too.

So need to be out there at 0700 Sunday.

Been doing a lot of hill/slope/mound ascent and descent practice this week.

One particular hill/slope/mound has been a bit scary until I became victorious and finally beat it this week. Again and again.

It's all in the confidence.

Anyhow, I digress. Ascents and descents fine, it's the bit in between i'm having problems with. This aint motocross where I fly over the hill with a big jump. This is trials, and meant to be all about control. Ideally you shut off just before the summit in a controlled manner to just have enough power to get over the summit, slow, and be in full control before the next section/obstacle or ascent.

Therein lies my current problem. Too fast over the summit and not in enough control to stop or slow enough ready for the next part.

Still too fast.

More control.

More practice.

All good fun.

Saturday at KMK.

Rode the Cota slowly around  the 7k loop 

then lunch.

Onto Climber.

4K into the 15K loop, started to lose power.

Almost felt like something was seizing.

Couldn’t even find neutral to get the bike to roll around.

So dragged it, rear wheel skidding. to a flatter spot.

Thought maybe rear brake was jammed but looked clean of debris.

Touched rear rotor to see if it was overheated.

Ouchdamn!! Yep.

Used trusty 6” adjustable spanner to loosen the

banjo fitting and bled some fluid out.

That freed things up 

and was able to ride back 

no prob.

Maybe linkage from pedal to master cylinder kaput.

Fix Monday.

Thermoplastic./plastic repair.

papa bought a 150W glue gun 

and some glue sticks

White, black, resin.

Also bought a 1500W 2-setting heat gun with nozzles.

Have a couple of soldering irons.

The future project is the rebuild of the Climber’s rear fender.

The paint peeled off long ago and the plastic 

[polyethlene or polypropylene, guessing]

is pretty old, like 39 y/o // 1989.

It is all dried and wrinkly,

like pap’s foreskin forehead skin.

Have a tear-out where the piece bolts to the frame.

Will inbed some aluminium screen mesh to reinforce.

Want to fill all the voids and rework the surface somehow.

Meanwhile my plastic riding boots have gotten gouged-up.

Used the heat-gun to melt a black glue-stick to fill in the 

holes and seams.

Guessing the stick was acrylic.

Looks ok, we'll see how durable.

I believe that's the new Sherco team practicing for this year's world championship with new signing, the veteran Cabestany.

Thanx for sharing. Nice decent bit of land.

Some of those riders need to be standing up on the pegs more. Too many sitting down, waddling their feet through sections, instead of standing on the pegs, going slower, but more in control.

As God (Jarvis) says, you can go faster by going slower...

Maybe you need to organize a trials school down there, like they have in CM every now and again...

I'm sure it would be a hit.
