My employer are preparing my contract for another years work in paradise and time is tight as we want to take a holiday next Friday. If I sign a new contract on Tuesday next week, for example, and we go to the labour dept that day.... they will look at my passport and take a copy but give it back to me. Last year they took 2 days to process my new WP for another year. Is it possible for me to go to immigration to do the ext of stay visa whilst the labour dept are still preparing the new WP extension? Or does immigration need to see the new WP? Can I instead show a receipt from the labour dept?

They don't need to see the original work permit, because you will give them a photocopy which they will check.

The problem you will have is that without your new work permit extension, you will not have a reason to apply for an extension of stay at immigration.

How would they know it's ok to grant you an extension of stay if your work permit has not yet been extended?
