NONTHABURI, 31 May 2016 (NNT) – The National Executive Committee on Preparation, Prevention and Solution of Newly Emerging Diseases has approved three measures to develop Thailand's health security through cooperation from the private and public sectors.


Deputy Prime Minister Admiral Narong Pipatanasai has said after chairing the National Executive Committee on Preparation, Prevention and Solution of Newly Emerging Diseases meeting at the Ministry of Public Health, that the meeting has made agreement on three subjects concerning the national health security.

The meeting has approved the One Health integrated healthcare work for 2017-2021 between 8 related ministries, the national medicine and vaccine development policy which encourages cooperation with private companies to help enhance the nation’s medicine independence, and the public relations plan against emerging diseases to ensure a better line of communicate with the general public.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the meeting has disclosed latest information on the Ebola and Zika virus outbreaks which are still issues outside Thailand. All Thai athletes participating in the upcoming Olympic games in Brazil will receive prevention measures for Zika virus, which has been on a continuous outbreak in Brazil.

There is no vaccine for Zika, so unless they have created one (as with Ebola etc) are the going to give them mosquito repellant?
