Safely receiving mail in my apartment

Featured Replies

My apartment in Bangkok says they can't handle mail securely for me.

It's a reasonably nice (but not luxurious) apartment in central Bangkok.

My mail is either just left in a pile by the lift for all the 200 residents to finger through, or left balanced on my room door handle for everyone to see.

If I'm away it can sit there for weeks.

Most letters could be slipped under the door, but the reception office say they can't.

They are just not interested in protecting peoples mail, and sooner or later I am worried a credit card, and separate letter with the PIN number will go missing - and I probably wouldn't know for several weeks!

Asking my bank to send credit cards by Fedex or whatever is just not a solution.

The staff simply smile and say they cannot do anything else, and if I don't like it we should get a better apartment. The are simply not interested in supplying mailboxes or keeping mail securely in the office.

My only other choice is to pay for an external mailbox, but I feel they should be handling this correctly. But this is Thailand.

How do you handle this, and what does the law say about protecting tenants mail?

Could you possibly arrange with the powers that be to have a slot installed on your door and then get confirmation from the postal carrier to put any mail through that slot for you?

I'd suspect Fed Ex, DSL and the like will leave a notice and you'll need to pick up any package from them.

Short of that, I'd imagine any law pertaining to your issue would me mute at best.

Mailboxes are readily available in most DIY stores.Ask if you can fit one either in the entrance ir on your door. Failing that for 500 baht rent a mailbox at your local Post office. You can go check thst whenever you want and dont have any concerns over delivery.

Yes i would suggest a PO Box secure, and i have never had mail go missing in 10 years.

Yes an external service might be the only solution. The postman hands everything to reception. So putting a box or slot in my door on the 15th floor wouldn't help.

Thanks for your suggestions.
