I drove from Nong Khai to Nakhon Phanom a few days ago, and I took my car to the car wash today. The boy who cleaned it pointed out that I must have driven through some wet cement, because there was a thin layer of cement along the right-hand side of the car (but not the left-hand side) below the door. He is not sure how to remove it, and neither am I. If anyone has removed cement successfully from paintwork, I appreciate some advice.

A lot of web sites recommend using a mixture in equal parts of water and vinegar by straying the mixture on and after a short time, wiping off.

As vinegar is a mild acid I would not recommend this as it will dull the paintwork.

Thank you, Bantex. I was thinking of using vinegar and water before I read your message.

After all that I had seen the car wash staff try, I thought that richard_smith237's suggestion that tissues would do the trick was pretty improbable. But he is right. It is quite astonishing. A simple tissue and water removes the concrete splatter without damaging the paintwork. My thanks to your clever friend, Richard.

Erm... I should have used the smiley.... I didn't expect simple tissue to take off cement...

I was tracking back to an amusing situation a few years ago...

GF picked my car up from the Valet, I was staying out with friends.

She called me while driving back... The Valet told her that semen had been sprayed on the car...

W.TF ??? I asked how ?... GF told me that the car had been parked near a building site..

W.TF again !!! .... construction worker whacking off over my car ?????

She told me that the semen needed cleaning off immediately as it could damage the car....

No way... It couldn't damage paintwork... We got into a little argument about it...

So, it was only when i got home later and checked out the car I realised my mistake...

Cemen >> semen >> cemenT

Dull paintwork can be polished, cement cannot. 50% diluted vinegar sounds like a good solution.

When/If you successfully remove the cement ... get the car polished up and 'wack' some glass coating on it ... ready for next time ☺...

Thanks for the suggestion. The tissue paper remedy was perfect, and I'll now get some coating on the paintwork.
