I'm pretty sure I have the symptoms of colon cancer. It's a family trend unfortunately with both my father and sister sucumbing to it fatally. I've been really, really stupid because I've ignored the symptoms for so long. I'm scared, that's why. Can anyone reccommend a hospital in BKK for a check up ? I need a colonoscopy. Anyone with any experiences ? Thanks......

I had surgery for colon cancer about 15 years ago. Followed by a year of chemo therapy. Since then, I've had colonoscopies every few years -- always with a clean bill of health. My father had surgery twice and he lived to 97. My uncle, his brother, ignored the symptoms and eventually died.

Since I've been living in Thailand, I've only had one colonoscopy -- five years after the last time in the U.S. -- and five years is the recommended interval for me. I went to BNH hospital for the check up. I like BNH, its clean, modern, it has good doctors, and it is not so busy that the doctors can't talk to you. Also, it is less expensive than Bumrungrad and, in my opinion, just as good. I don't remember the name of the doctor that did my check up and there are several there, but I would recommend the hospital.

Same as you but mother and sister had it, mother died. Started having checks 8 years ago (57) and glad I did as they have removed lots of polyps and now have every three years. I would not go to Bumrungrad as the charges are high at over 20k and that does not include everything, look up charges on their site. Just have to fast the day before and take very strong laxatives and drink plenty of water the day before. They put you under and it takes about 30 minutes.

Any medium or large sized hospital can do the colonoscopy, the issue is more choice of doctor for after care. In your case, since you are high risk, you would do well to be under the care of specialist in colon cancer even if the test is negative since you need periodic screening. I suggest any of the following:

Bangkok Hospital

http://www.bangkokhospital.com/App/doctorp...&Lang=en-US (Us trained/board certified)

Bumrungrad

Dr. Chucheep Sahakitrungruang (US trained, recent fellowship at Cleveland Clinic) - also at BNH & Bkk Chrsitian

Dr. Jirawat Pattana-Arun (US trained, recent fellowship at Mayo Clinic)

Dr. Weerapat Suwanthanma (US trained, recent fellowship at Mayo Clinic)

BNH

Dr. Chucheep Sahakitrunghttp://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Colon-Cancer-t92259.htmlruang (US trained, recent fellowship at Cleveland Clinic) -- also at Bumrungrad & Bkk Christian

DR. AROON ROJANASAKU (US trained, fellowship at Mayo Clinic)

Bangkok Christian Hospital

Dr. Chucheep Sahakitrungruang (US trained, recent fellowship at Cleveland Clinic) -- also at Bumrungrad & BNH

The above recommendations are based on qualifications only, I do not have any feedback on any of them.

If cost is a consideration, BKK Christian would be substantially less expensive than the others.

Dr. Chucheep Sahakitrungruang has published research in this field and is on the faculty at Chulalonghorn (a leading medical school) so if it were me, he'd be a top choice.
