You are not allowed on the motorway. You can take the old Bangna Trat road to Bangkok (passing through Laem Chabang, Sriracha, Bang Phra, Chonburi town, Bang Bo onwards to Bangna.

I drove the reverse route from Bangkok to Pattaya down Sukhumvit (Bangna - Trat Highway 3) in a poorly conceived 'just reminiscing' trip last year. That's 5 hours of my life I'll never get back.

Your experience on 2 wheels may vary but I would wager you'll be looking to take the bus back.

Gosh! What's the point of having big bikes in Thailand if we can't ride on the motorway ?

It's one road about 150 km long out of the 100,000's km of highways in Thailand that you cannot ride a bike on. Lots of reasons to have a big bike to ride if that is your thing. Saw a large group of Thais (over a 100) riding all sorts of big big bikes on the 304 to Kabin Buri a few weeks ago. Not my thing, but they were certainly dedicated bikers. Lots of money in those bikes.

You can ride on the side/service roads of motorway 7. I take Sukhumvit up to Laem Chabang and then I cross over to 7. When you cross over from Sukhumvit to 7 you must stay on the side roads because this road is also a motorway. When I get to Chon Buri City I use the 361 bypass, it is busy but still better than going through Chon Buri City on Sukhumvit. After Chon Buri City you can drive Sukhumvit or 34 (Bangna Express way) into Bangkok. If you take 34 you must yet again stay on the far left carriageway.

I have done this trip a zillion times.

From Pattaya, take the motorway, no need to go through Laem Chabang, Sri Racha, Bang Saen or Chonburi. Get in the outside lane and hammer it. Before the tolls begin, turn off on to the Chonburi bypass, the 361. This will eventually get you on to Bang Na - Trat. You can't go on the elevated route but you are ok on the main strip underneath the elevated tollway.

I usually turn off to the airport going around it and get into Bangkok along Rama 9.

Bit Vague.

I thought it was pretty clear. I've thought about this myself, and how long it would take. With all the stops on Sukhumvit all the way to Bangkok I imagine it will be a long journey. I don't think my backside could handle being on the saddle of my scooter that long.

Scooter ? Do you happen to be squatting on a PCX ?

No, but I SIT on a Honda Air Blade and it doesn't take long for the ass to become uncomfortable. Glute muscle density is not what it used to be.biggrin.png
