US cities see unexplained rise in violent crimes this year

CHICAGO (AP) — Violent crimes — from homicides and rapes to robberies — have been on the rise in many major U.S. cities, yet experts can't point to a single reason why and the jump isn't enough to suggest there's a trend.

NPR journalist David Gilkey, translator killed on assignment

WASHINGTON (AP) — David Gilkey, a veteran news photographer and video editor for National Public Radio, and an Afghan translator, Zabihullah Tamanna, were killed while on assignment in southern Afghanistan on Sunday, a network spokeswoman said.

Qatar Investment Authority buys Asia Square Tower 1

Turkey's Erdogan says childless women are 'incomplete'

Women who reject motherhood or refrain from being around house are "deficient" and "incomplete", Turkish president says.


ANKARA: -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged Turkish women to have at least three children, saying a woman's life is "incomplete" if she fails to have offspring.
