Interpretation of referendum act won't affect roadmap, says CDC

BANGKOK, 6 June 2016 (NNT) – According to the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC), the interpretation of the public referendum act will not affect the time frame of the country’s roadmap.

CDC spokesperson Udom Rathamarit said the National Council for Peace and Order's (NCPO) decision to allow politicians to travel abroad won't affect the work of the drafting body, given that it has no relationship with any political party.

As for the interpretation of Section 61 Clause 2 of the Public Referendum Act by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) and the Constitutional Court, the spokesperson is confident that it won't push back the time frame of the roadmap regardless of the results of the interpretation.

In the meantime, president of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) Pornpetch Wichitcholchai declined to comment on the interpretation of the article, saying whatever the outcome, the legislature will not overrule it.

Why would politicians traveling abroad have any impact on anything , there seems to be some fear they might talk out of school, so what, everyone outside of Thailand just wishes the junta would just take a long walk, you get the Junta leader with boring speeches on every international trip, trying to convince himself that what he did was correct, and you worry over an interpretation , Id be more concerned with what comes around , goes around.................................coffee1.gif

No, just amend the law to render the interpretation as meaningless.

Or the NCPO can simply overrule it under Article 44 without NLA.

Typically when the Junta/Five Rivers say something today, another member reverses it tomorrow.

If the Referendum Act is found to be unconstitutional (that is, it violates the current interim charter re" free speech/expression, etc.) then there would be no other option than to push out the date of the referendum. But one never knows here.
