Police step up water accident prevention safety measures

BANGKOK, 7 June 2016 (NNT) – The Royal Thai Police has urged related agencies to prepare counter measures against water-related accidents to ensure the safety and confidence of the general public and tourists.

The Royal Thai Police’s Deputy Spokesman Pol Col Kirtsana Pattanacharoen has revealed that the Tourist Police and Marine Police have been assigned to put urgent measures in place to prevent water accidents, in wake of recent occurrences of boat related accidents.

These counter measures will include the training of boat drivers, ensuring the availability of sufficient life jackets, along the cooperation of related agencies to prevent accidents from reoccurring.

The police deputy spokesman said the commissioner-general has appointed the working committee to standardize regulations, including traffic regulations, to be on par with international standards. This is a crucial task as the commencement of the ASEAN Community has brought significantly more visitors to Thailand.

On the latest boat accident in Rayong, the police deputy spokesman disclosed that boat driver has been charged with negligence, resulting in serious injuries to others.
