PM: Govt's fight against human trafficking progresses

BANGKOK, 7 June 2016 (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has confirmed that there is progress in the government's fight against human trafficking. He also ensured transparency and fairness for all sides.

Gen. Prayut on Monday said the government had just taken the first step in combating human trafficking in the country. He stressed that the government was determined to tackle the problem continuously and called on all government officers to work aggressively.

More than 540 people have been arrested for human trafficking. The government has taken legal actions against 21 officers and seized 210 million baht in human trafficking cases. New laws have been passed to help increase the efficiency of anti-human trafficking efforts.

What action actually has been taken against these officers? A transfer isn't action for such an offence. I recall the government media release saying officers had been arrested but no names or photo ops with these mysterious villains. We have seen a few photos of Somchia and burmese smiling with officers. Small time people hired to drive a vehicle. We have seen people arrested for speaking out against human trafficking. Giving people a voice to speak out will be a powerful tool to fighting human trafficking. Keeping everything silent and having people afraid to mention it isn't going to help progress.

... which is peanuts compared to the many billions of profits from enslaving human beings. As long as there are no high profile arrests being made, the whole story is plain crap. It's only intended to try to satisfy EU and US criticasters. The top rats in the trafficking industry will never give up their profitable business.

The Thai legal system is a joke. The penal code and it's interpretation by public prosecuters, defenders and judges is an insult to any person with even the smallest sense of justice.

The surprising thing is *and it is *really* surprising - to me at least), is that he really seems to believe the international community swallows his lies and distortions.

Lets have a list of the people actually banged up - with the sentence they got. I doubt that would be very impressive.

Arrests mean nothing till we see names and faces behind bars.

Thus so far no progress has been made.

The "pm" sleeping then trying to lecture everyone, "don't put too much pressure on us".

Good job man.

After two decades of slave trading. Involving police, military, and government officials. Billions of baht. This is there pathetic response! Trust me, we are Thai!
