PHUKET: -- Police are investigating the death of a Russian man who was found hanged by the neck in a room at a Patong hotel yesterday.

Hotel staff found Ivan Romankin, 29, at about 5:20pm, hanging from a steel beam.

Patong police refused to release the name of the four-storey hotel. They suspect Mr Romankin had been dead for six hours before his body was discovered.

Why refuse to name the hotel, is it a suspect?

The opposite is the reason. The hotel is not implicated in the death and they probably don't want the hotel to suffer as a result of the connection and it is the hotel owner's right not to have the name publicised.

Don't worry, though, some vindictive poster here will be along shortly to name and shame for no good reason.

Eakkapop Thongtub

PHUKET: -- Police suspect that a marijuana-possession charge against a Russian man may have played a part in the man being found hanged in a Patong hotel room yesterday afternoon (June 6).

Maj Theerasak Boonsang of the Patong Police reported that he was notified by hotel staff at 5:20pm, saying that a foreign man had been found hanged in one the hotel’s ground-floor rooms.

Maj Theerasak reported that the four-storey hotel where the Russian man* was found dead was on Nanai Rd, but did not identify the name of the establishment.

“There were no signs of assault or any other injuries on the body, and we found no sign of robbery in the room,” he said.

There seem to be too many people doing this sort of thing, although the balcony dive is still the favorite. I wonder what the incidence of suicide among expats and tourists in Thailand actually is. It must be very high if these are suicides and not drug deals/extortions etc.

....as is not pointed out...but has been mentioned since discovered.....

....*** "No need for an investigation or autopsy if ruled a suicide" ***...

.....so a person's life is not worth the investigation....???

...quality tourists, come one come all......

...considering tourism has made this country...its economy.....that is pretty pathetic...

The guy had taken possession by rent of a pink Click 125i scooter which he never returned.

So certainly no "quality" tourist .

The renter has shown me his passport picture and number and has been searching for him and has no reservations with calling him a thief.

The pink Click 125 i had the number plate "1 Gaw Gai , Kaw Ruk Kung , 2519" should anyone have seen it.

What? No picture of a hanging body with a pixelated face?

The Phuket News and Phuket Gazette news rags are falling down on their usual jobs.
