Tourist Killed in Parasailing Accident in Pattaya Bay
Story by Albert Jack

p5.jpg

PATTAYA: -- At 1.30pm on the afternoon of June 4 a Sri Lankan tourist, thirty-seven year old Aloysius Nirmalarajan, was killed in a parasailing accident in Pattaya Bay.

Witnesses claim that after about only two minutes in the air the wind seemed to suddenly disappear because Mr Nirmalarajan dropped and crashed into the boat. He was knocked unconscious and later died from his injuries.

The boat, a Sathaporn SK7, operated by the Siam Local Co, was being driven by forty-eight year old Chamlong Yoosawad who is a naval officer.

City officials say that accidents such as these are harming the image of Pattaya and a meeting has been called to discuss new guidelines that will be implemented in an attempt to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities to foreign tourists in the Bay.

Loss of live matters not, but the public image of Asia's armpit does...

theyve actually nothing to worry about as people in general are too stupid to heed warnings or take note of what happens in places they will travel to.

is koh tao deserted dispite it being a fairly good bet theres a murderer there?

are holiday farangs now riding scooters with correct clothing and licences?

It does not matter , Pattaya already has a poor image in the world eye, worry about your service providers or Pattaya will soon fall of the tourist map.

Tourist dont come to Pattaya specifically for Parasailing , they come for pussy . Some guys go Parasailing while waiting for night fall and more Pussy.

You get it now?

Harming Pattayas image, what a joke.

All they seem to care about is image.

A poor man has lost his life, SAFETY is what they should care about, not bloody image.

If they are so concerned about Pattayas image, what about jet skis????

driver, winchman, (if any) not paying attention, could have eccelerated, so neglegent ,

These boats never have a winchman, only a driver. This is rediculous as the driver has to keep an eye on all the other boats out there all the time.

There should at least be two people in the speed boat during these operations.

Just by the law averages, you have dozens of people driving at break neck speed in speed boats unable to see where they are going as the Bow is too high and they also have to watch for a guy 100 feet up in the air behind them, something is going to go badly wrong....Another thing referencing driving any vehicle ??? there are just as many Opticians here as there are 7/11's but you only see 1% of Thais wearing specs....

With LoS being the global hub of tourist deaths, the law of averages now states, that nearly every day someone comes here on a holdiay to die.

Before you fell from a building, now they even have buildings falling down on you !!!

Imagine how bad it would get if Great White Sharks decided to move here from the West coast of Australia. The Box Jelly fish has already mades it's appearance ....and bring on the Blue Ringed Octopus ....

I read on TV yesterday that the Tourism Minister was NOW going to take tourist safety seriously.

May I ask why the speedboat driver did not start to increase speed to keep the guy in the air ? Or is that a dumb question ?

Maybe we should make a "bucket list" as in "what to do if want to kick the bucket".

There are activities I never ever do here in Jomtien:

1. go in water above ankles (even that is dicey)

2. jet skis

3. parasailing

4. Walking late at night

5. Getting drunk with group of Thai men

6. get a motorcycle

I am sure others could add to this....

The deaths never stop. How can it really be damaged any more than it already is? Talk is cheap...best keep your mouth closed

Maybe that's what you do but many others have different motives, holiday for example, tens of thousands of Chinese will attest to that as will the many families from the West who visit every year!

LMAO have you even been to Pattaya? The Chinese make a bee line for walking st ! they are not lining up at the parasailing booth and they could care less about it.

Now shut down walikng st and you just may see Pattaya drop off the map

A naval officer? I guess he has permission from his commanding officer to work for a parasailing business (badly apparently) and not be available for whatever passes as normal duty? Or was he simply AWOL and no-one noticed?

Maybe he was undercover and the Sri Lankan was a spy using the height while parasailing to snoop at the aircraft carrier in nearby Sattahip? "Terminated with extreme prejudice" The boat was Sathaporn 007

One would imagine Naval officers would be more aware of boat driving issues!

....it's a numbers game after all it seems....

...'Next'....

...surely the wind to blame.....

...all those racial slurs come to mind about people resembling Indians....

...and sadly one has to wonder....and worry....

I thought Para Sailing was more about air than wind? So long as there is air the sail/chute should be kept up. This, surely, is accomplished by the boat moving fast enough in an area where there is air (so, sea level should normally suffice). Is it possible that the chute just got tangled ?
