DSI chief says no positive signs about whether Phra Dhammachaya will surrender or not

BANGKOK: -- There are no positive signs yet from Phra Dhammachayo about whether and when he will turn himself in to acknowledge the charges of money laundering and receiving stolen items, said Pol Col Paisit Wongmuang, director-general of the Department of Special Investigation, on Tuesday.

He, however, said that it would now depend on a special panel comprising representatives of the DSI, the Office of National Buddhism and the chief monk of Pathum Thani to decide how to deal with the defiant abbot of Wat Dhammakaya regarding his surrender to acknowledge the charges against him.

The DSI chief noted that the DSI had given privileges to Dhammachayo all along but, at the same time, he said, the DSI has to enforce the law otherwise it may be accused of not performing its duty as required by the law.

The DSI has prepared a file about the two charges against Dhammachayo to be submitted to a committee on special cases on Friday, said Pol Col Paisit.

The DSI chief admitted that he had not seen the latest letter from Wat Dhammakaya asking for the replacement of the enquiry police officers handling Dhammachayo’s case.

Meanwhile, Wat Dhammakaya appealed to the media to treat its abbot with respect by addressing him as Phra or Luangpo instead of just Dhammachayo.

Phra Maha Nopporn Poonyachayo, assistant director of the communications office of the temple, insisted that Wat Dhammakaya is not above the law, insisting that all monks must follow the law.

Here'r a trick question for you ' chief ' ever thought of going to bring him in ?

No, thought not.

"He said, the DSI has to enforce the law otherwise it may be accused of not performing its duty as required by the law.

It's wouldn't be an accusation, but it certainly is a fact.

Totally laughable.

The hub of justice where the criminals set the agenda.

Why would he surrender there is no reason for him to do that. How about getting everyone and going and help him make up his mind and any followers that are not sure as well? Now there is a good better idea.

Please can someone ask the D.S.I. clowns to stop all this bu....it.

I am laughing so much it is hurting me.

Amazing that they want everyone to continue showing him respect by calling him phra. He has lost any due respect when he used his followers to barricade him inside and by not following the Buddhist morally and ethics.

I guess the enquiry of police that attempted to enter refused to accept those fat envelopes so they are demanding a different set of police to enter with their enquiries.

The Thai FBI is stumped.....again!

A useless organisation with their fingers stuck in their b**s!

Well, that would certainly be a first, now wouldn't it??? cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Ever thought of reading the daily reports about this and trying to understand what the DSI is trying to do? i.e. they're trying to conduct things sensitively and not cause the riot that probably could happen putting many lives at risk

Kwaistone Cops again.

Aw shucks, is that what will happen?

What's putting lives at risk in Thailand is the non-enforcement of laws and the fact that the rich and connected can get away with murder - literally.

all monks must follow the law

all military must follow the law

all police must follow the law

Catchy theme.

A similar problem arose in UK with the Archbishop of Canterbury in 1170. King Henry II got it sorted though.

"...DSI had given privileges to Dhammachayo all along...."

Why? We can only guess why.... Privilege comes from "private law" root I believe. Lots of private law here I reckon.

I would imagine that since he hasn't turned himself in, that sends a message of sorts. Maybe he just misplaced his keys?

It would read correctly if you deleted- literally.

Oh! I see we might have another meeting to decide how best to handle the situation.

I suggest you add to the agenda as point No 1, sent the police to his bolt-hole and make an arrest along with anyone interfering with said arrest.

See it was easy, any further business before we adjourn the meeting?

Does he have super powers? Just go get him, and stop this nonsense

Nothing more than a criminal in saffron robes and he is above the law. facepalm.gif

Buddhadasa Bhikkhu, the founder of Wat Suan Mokkh in Chai Ya once went to Bangkok to further his studies and this is what he found and wrote. He traveled to the capital, Bangkok, for doctrinal training but found the wats there dirty, crowded, and, most troubling to him, the sangha corrupt, "preoccupied with prestige, position, and comfort with little interest in the highest ideals of Buddhism." He went back to Chai Ya and mostly stayed.
