Power outages were mentioned.... I would suspect that there are increased issues maintaining a cool internal climate, which uses more power, (quality equipment needs to be in a cool environment), leading to overloaded power demands and subsequent shutdowns.

Amongst other things (that others in the known, might suggest.... Any engineers?)

Increased gennie load for aircon would seem to be a minor factor. More likely to be that generator cooling not up to the job.

Main factors for cooler performance are surface area for heat exchange (hard to change), temperature differential (the warmer sea water just isn't removing enough heat), throughput of coolant volume (pumping more coolant through should remove more heat, but energy expensive) and marine growth reducing heat transfer (in warm waters occurs more rapidly).

The remedies would seem to be:

*ripping the coolers out and replacing them with larger or more efficient units and/or

* getting cooler sea water by lowering intake depth and/or

* increasing pump capacity to raise throughflow and/or

* higher dosing of chlorine or other anti-fouling measures.

For their fondness of warm beer ....

This should not present much of a problem for troop morale.

On a more serious note, it is interesting that less dense part of the Earths crust create "holes" or depressions in the ocean surface, due to the lag of gravity pull.

Hello remember a few months ago, when the Yanks were having problems with their littorial ships???

Years ago sailors just had to put up with things. Now everything is heath and safety, and the best creature comforts.

Must have hot showers/ aircon/ hot food, in fact better conditions than they would have at home.

Wasting cooling systems etc for comfort and not the efficient operation of the ship.

Talk about a thread that is bringing the worst out in people. It's obvious that the engineers and those responsible for the design did not take the warm water conditions into consideration. It's a technical problem. It will be remedied in short order. It has nothing to do with with the Brits being better or worse than anybody else.
