PATTAYA:--While low season is in full swing, the crowds are still thick on Big Buddha Mountain, with tourists drawn to the Chao Cheechan Temple. Thais mixed with Chinese and Russians tourists make up the majority of visitors to the temple, a regular stop for package tours.

Visitors pay respects to the large Buddha image carved in gold into the side of the cliff, and make wishes for good luck and prosperity.

The image is formally named Phra Buddha Maha Wachira Utta Mopas Sasada and was created in the Marn Vichai style. It is 150 meters tall and 100 meters. The Buddha sits on lotus leaf.
