SETV

Featured Replies

Hi all. 43 yr old British passport holder comin to Thailand in July and staying for 7 weeks (49 nights). This trip I intend on visiting Cambodia and possibly Laos.

What is the best course of action if arriving on a SE visa?

If i were to visit Cambodia early in the trip what would be my visa status/ situation when I returned from Cambodia? Would i have 2 weeks stamp or a month?

I dont want to make a silly mistake and end up having to do visa runs?.

Many thanks.

You can obtain a re entry permit.

It keeps your original permission to stay stamp active.

So when you enter Thailand you get 60 days,if you leave after 2 weeks you lose the 2 weeks while out of the country but retain your original stamp giving you a further 32 days left upon re entering.

A SETV can also be extended at immigration for 1900,giving an extra 30 days stay.

You could of course not bother with a SETV and enter visa exemption,UK passport is granted 30 days at land and air borders.

get the setv and then either a single entry re-entry permit from local immigration office (1,000 baht) this would cover you for one trip out of the country, but will keep your original permission to stay stamp alive

  • If you are returning from Cambodia with more than 30 days left of your stay in Thailand then you can buy a re-entry permit (1,000 baht) on the way out. On return the IO will use the re-entry permit and grant you the remainder of your original 60 day stay.

If you have 30 days or less remaining then you can forget the SETV/re-entry permit and re-enter for free using visa exempt entry. As a Brit you'll be granted 30 days.

You don't really need a SETV if you are here for 49 nights

You will get 30 days upon entry to Thailand, after you leave and come back again you will get another 30 days which can be extended for another 30 days at any Immigration Office within Thailand

This is more than adequate for your needs

As long as the OP has proof of onward ticket within the initial 30 days yes.

Otherwise as myself and others departing the UK on oneway tickets have found you may be denied boarding, they didn't accept leaving by a land border as adequate, although the quick fix is to book a cheap flight to KL or elsewhere, adding unnecessary cost and delay.

It seems you are already planning to come on a single entry tourist visa (good).

What you should do further depends on whether you already have many Thai entry stamps in your passport (or plan to have in future). Normally, as a tourist with few entries, just plan on getting 30-day visa exempt entries when you reenter by land. You can also receive these coming back in by air, but may need to show an air ticket out of Thailand within 30 days (which I expect you will have).
