Has Anyone Imported A Dell Laptop and MS Office Software Recently?

I want to by a Dell computer and MS licensed Office software from the U.S. for gifts here.

I was wondering if I will be charged duty as it is a gift. My professional forwarding service in the U.S. allows for the option to mark the packaging as a gift.

If not accepted, what sum can I expect to be charged for duty on a retail price of $900.00. My forwarding service is in a state that has no state sales tax.

Where is the customs office in Bangkok? What is the procedure.

In 9 years living here after receiving hundreds of packages I was never charged duty. I'm not sure why, perhaps the professional shipper has connections? I've heard they do target computers.

I look forward to your responses.

Have you already bought it ??

Look here for the DELL: http://www.invadeit.co.th/category/notebooks-laptops/dell/sort/price/asc/

Look here for MS Office: http://www.invadeit.co.th/category/office-systems-software/sort/price/asc/

And here you don't have to worry about import duty wink.png

Edit: If you don't wanna buy it here, look here for a duty calculator http://www.dutycalculator.com/

please be sitting down when calculating the import duty, you will need it !!

If you really want to buy it in the US, put the computer in your carry-on , the empty box (fill it with clothes or other stuff) in your checked luggage. In the off chance they stop you , you say it's your personal computer. Voila , no import tax.

Carry it in the bag and tell them it's your notebook for personal use. I did that a few times with mine and nobody even looked inside my bag.

I think laptops are duty free....

Certainly not if they're shipped over.

As hand-carried luggage, if one removes obvious signs of its being brand new (protection films etc.), yes.

I've used Fedex to ship in brand new boxed laptops and there's no duty, just 7% tax on your declared cost which can be anything you think is reasonable.
