Passport renewal time frame

Featured Replies

What is the time frame for renewals from asking for an appointment at the embassy to receiving the passport? Im on 60 day visas and will book just after my next visa renewal. Will they fit me in within a few weeks, giving me plenty of time to get my pp before my visa is up?

Thanks in advance.

Mr. Worried (cos of previous nightmares)

What nationality and where are you? If Brit, you dont go to the embassy but the Trendy Building Suk Soi 13.

Yes, I'm British and in Bangkok. Sorry, I thought I'd included it in my post

Just go through the steps here and you will get the page that has info about getting the passport and the email address for VFS to make your appointment. https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports

You can request 2 or 3 dates and times for your appointment when you do the email.

Recent reports are that it takes 2 to 3 weeks to get the new passport from the date you apply for it.

Thanks joe. I've requested my dates for the days after my renewal. So 2-3 weeks should easily be suffice.

Mine was ready in 14 days, another friends in 10 days and another's in 28 days, all these were within the past 6 months

You also have the option of extending your 60 day TR while you are waiting for the new passport to arrive, perhaps in the case that something were to cause a delay such as an issue with photographs etc. Although the rules state that your old passport is 'deactivated' and no good for further travel when you apply for the new passport, it is still possible to use it for a 30 day extension at your local immigration office, if necessary.

As reported earlier in this thread, a 2-3 week delivery schedule seems to be the norm at the moment and so there should be no problems for you.

The old passport is retained and it is good for ID purposes.

It may be 'de-activated' on UKPA records but that does not connect to Thai immigration systems. I traveled to Cambodia on my old passport AFTER the new one had been issued. I suspect that you can continue to use it locally until the first time you swipe the new one.
