Marriage Extension Maturing Period 2 Months Or 60 Days

Featured Replies

I see in lots of threads that the maturing time for the marriage extensions is 2 months. So an extension based on marriage that expires on 30th August has to have the money in by 30th June?

It may seem pedantic, but I have read in some places it is 60 days and I cannot transfer the money until the last day of the month - June 30th - and it will arrive July 1st.

I think I miss the deadline by just 1 day?

Thanks for the help

The police order states 2 months.

You could get a 60 day extension to visit you wife to get more time to have the money in the bank for 2 months. Then apply for the one year extension during the last 30 days of the 60 days.

Or you could also apply a day late and pay a 500 baht fine for that one day of overstay.

Thanks Ubonjoe for your quick reply

I will have to have a think what to do.

Thanks again

If you are also the parent of a Thai the immigration office might process your application as a parent in which case the money only has to be in you account on the day you apply.

Can we get some clarity on Thailand Immigration's exact and unambiguous definition of "two months"? Ideally it should be documented somewhere.

Do you guys know of anyone who has been rejected because they had only had the money in the account for 60 days, and not 2 months?

There is only one definition. Two Months is two months not 60 days.

Yes people have been turned away for not having the money in the bank for two months. Same for the 3 months required for an extension based upon retirement.

  • If the deposit date were the 15th June the two months ends at midnight on August 14th. Therefore the first day one could apply would be August 15th.
  • The 60 day rule only applies to the first retirement extension in which case June 15th would be day 1, day 60 would be August 13th, and the first day an application could be made would be August 14th.

Yes applications do get rejected if the 2 months hasn't been met. They also reject applications if the balance has dropped below the 400K min even for 1 day of the 2 months.
