Payment rules for buying apple MBP with foreign credit card?

The wife wants to buy a new apple macbook pro and we are thinking of doing it online. She has a Thai credit card with a $100k limit. But I was going to maybe use my nanny state credit card from back home. As this has a foreign address are there any pedantic little credit card rules when buying it; i.e if the card is in my name but we want the laptop to be in her name etc. My gut feeling is that maybe its best to put it on her card. Whats your opinion?

In most cases it would be better to use local card if paying off immediately as foreign card will likely have a foreign usage fee added to the amount charged. Have no idea of Apple policy as avoid them.

i used a UK card with the thai apple store - I had to call them, as the online order form wanted a thai address.

Though with your wife having a thai card, im not sure of the benefit of using yours?

PS. If your wife is (or said she is) a teacher, she could get the education discount, I did with mine, and no proof was required. 3 or so years ago, so it may have changed.

This would work if you had a child in school also - its around 10% off

I think he means the online one, as he said

as the online order form wanted a thai address.

PS the MBP is due an update, I'd advise to hold of a while

Yes hold off. The new one will likely have zero ports so that they can make it 0.003mm thinner, the processor will be double the speed of its predecessor (but 1/4 that of most cheaper intel PCs), and some minor features will be added to the OS that will touted as revolutionary, magic, and the best we have ever made. The press will then write a million articles about the magical revolutionary advancements as if they were created by God himself and handed exclusively to Apple.

The online Apple store is official.... why do people keep harping on this? , coffee1.gif

The merchandise comes from Singapore or HK... it's all covered by warranty too. it's no big deal. Usually arrives in a few days.

Never had a problem using my foreign card, I would think a Thai card once verified would be fine too.

Can you go into the Apple store and talk to them. No you cannot.

Many people think the ones they see are...they are not.

Apple store is offical online but it is not a physical apple store.

I am sick of people claiming people are harping when they point out the truth.

I say again There is no official apple store in Thailand.

My iPod Touch came from Changshu in China, and I can tell you tmrw where my wife's iPhone 6 comes from (awaiting delivery), both ordered via the Apple Thai Online store.

I paid for both of them via my BBL Debit Card. No problem

What a daft argument you are making. There are apple stores everywhere. I was in one last night. Can i go into a netflix store... no. Can I go into an apple store... yes. It only sells apple products and give apple warranties on all products

You are correct in that there are a lot of iStudio stores in Thailand but there is nary an official Apple Store. You may want to read this report from MacRumors for some clarification.

http://www.macrumors.com/2015/10/26/apple-store-singapore-late-2016-knightsbridge/

A friend recently bought an Apple watch and an iPhone from an iStudio and told me he also bought AppleCare for both of them. I was surprised by this as I know at least for the phone, AppleCare is not available in a country that does not have an Apple Store which is the case in Thailand. What he bought is what's called Apple Protection plan and I don't know what the difference is.

I'm happy to see a greater Apple presence in SEA. Maybe someday it'll be Thailand's turn.
