Instagram problem

Featured Replies

Out of curiosity, I installed the "Instagram" app on my Android 5.1 mobile last month but have only opened it a few times since.

A few days ago, I started to get bombarded with dozens of various game and porn apps trying to install on my phone...some very tricky to get rid of without accidentally downloading them. I went through everything I could think of trying to identify the source. I realized that a "Unknown sources" download permission page that was constantly popping up looked similar to the Instagram home page so I tried uninstalling Instagram: it worked, the spam apps disappeared and none have come up since.

I've checked the 'net and could find no recent reports of similar problems so it might just have been some nasty thing my Instagram account picked up and unique to my phone but if anybody has a similar problem, uninstalling Instagram could be your solution.
