Dhammakaya’s followers brace for possible DSI raid

BANGKOK: -- Followers of Wat Dhammakaya are up in arms inside the temple apparently to protect their beloved abbot, Phra Dhammakaya, from a possible raid by police and officials of the Department of Special Investigation, to have him arrested.

Mr Ongart Thamnitha, spokesman of the followers, said Wednesday that as many as 50,000 monks and lay followers have been gathering at the temple and their numbers are steadily rising.

But he said that if the officials actually raided the temple to make the arrest of Phra Dhammachayo, all the followers present there would just invite the officials to join them in meditating.

The followers accused the DSI of waging a war against one sick and elderly monk by planning to mobilize up to 600 men under arms and helicopters.

They also questioned the DSI’s hasty decision to submit the case against Phra Dhammachayo to the public prosecution on Monday despite the fact that a tri-party panel set up to mediate the conflict between the DSI and the temple was yet to come up with a resolution.

The panel finally decided not to get involved in the case and to allow the public prosecution to do its job freely.

The followers claimed that all the donations given to the temple, including those from Klongchan Credit Unit Cooperatives, had been spent for the development of the temple and none of them had been misused by Phra Dhammachayo or for his own benefit.

Moreover, they claimed that the donations from Klongchan Credit Union had been fully returned to the cooperatives through fund-raising among the followers and the cooperatives had thanked the temple for the refund.

The followers asked all parties concerned to stay calm and to let the public prosecution to decide whether to indict the temple’s abbot or not.

these idiots think you can commit a crime and then give the money back and no longer be guilty. In any other country this corrupt monk would have been in jail already along with all the idiots that are shielding him. The sooner they throw his corrupt arse into the lock up the better

Waco 'thai style'?

"these idiots think you can commit a crime and then give the money back and no longer be guilty."

As I recall, that's exactly what the army did vis a vis Rajabhakti Park.

What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. But then perhaps corruption is OK for the army, no need to look and if we find, they just give it back and all's well.

Win

High on his latest crusade against the massage parlor mob, big p expects results here too. Maybe though this time the P has met his match. Popcorn out, enjoy the show....

Perfect match for a day of comedy.
