what is too low blood pressure

I am 72 and the last 6 years I had mild hypertension about 140 to 160 systolic and 60 to 70 diastolic (my diastolic numbers were never higher than 70)

Now the last week I have surprising low blood pressure : morning about 95 to 100 over 55 to 60

I do not feel dizzy except that morning I need more time to get in full action...

I thought that with such hypotension I should be in an intensive care unit ...So I went for check up (electro cardio gram and blood analysis) showing all is OK for my age but the doctor does not reply my questions about what is going on with my blood pressure

Question to TVF members : do some of you experience the same low blood pressure over a long period without any worry?

Anything ovet 90/60 is considered normal. And some people run a little below that with no problem. Blood pressure will also naturally tend to be lower when you are lyind down and first thing in the morning.

These are certainly not numbers that would require medical intervention.

However, if you are taking medication for your blood pressure it may be time to reduce or stop.

Mine is all over the place, had stays in Hospital 3 times over past 4 years with dangerously low blood pressure, [+ blurred and dizzy]... now must record morning and evening blood sugar + blood pressure and heart, so since my last spell in Hospital + new medication for low blood pressure.. No idea what it means, just think if I understood the Dr below 90 is 'Low' over 130 is 'High'

aged 66, Diabetic + low blood pressure tablets for 20 years

Morning are OK most days 118- 128 over 79 - 84, below are evening reading over past 12 days

Thanks for the detailed reply which shows I should not worry too much but nevertheless monitor my blood pressure.

How do you record your blood sugar : analysis made last week recorder 106 mg/Dl which is pre-diabetes but I want to monitor this now also.

Always used Accu-Chek meters, the newest one' Performa' I have now you no long have to put another chip in every time you buy a new tub of strips........ Problem here is can only find 25 strip tubs, both at Pharmacies and Hospital, my old meter Accu-Chek 'Active' tubs were 50 strips here.. USA + UK was 100 strips per tub.

Test 1st thing in the morning, before eating or drinking anything, this is called your fasting reading.. myself then also test again 1 hour after the evening meal.

I am 72 and 10 years ago I had 2 stents put in down in Bangkok.

I now live in rural Khampaeng Phet and the BKK doctor put me on Co-Diovan 80/12.5 mg, 1/2 tablet daily, Dilatrend 25mg, 1 tablet daily, Bestatin 20 mg, 1 tablet daily and Orfarin 6 mg, 2 x 3 mg tablets daily. I also go to a private hospital in KPP every 3 months for a check on my blood sugar and an INR test

(The test used to monitor the effects of warfarin is called the International Normalised Ratio, or INR. It is a blood test that checks how long it takes for blood to clot. The higher the INR, the longer it will take blood to clot (and the higher the risk of bleeding)).

Both of these tests are in the normal range so I have no problems there.

I am overweight but I generally exercise around an hour a day most days cutting the grass and scrub on about 3 or 4 rai which is quite hard at times.

When I come in I take my blood pressure with my Microlife BP meter and then again an hour or so later when I have showered and relaxed. I am not sure how accurate the BP meter is so I take 5 sets of readings consecutively and use the middle one. The second set of readings are generally lower than the first set.

These are the readings that I have had over a fair period.
