BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly has set July 7 as the date for assemblymen to start debating on the proposed impeachment of former defence minister Air Chief Marshal Sukamphol Suwannatat for his alleged interference in the appointment of the defence permanent secretary some years ago.

The NLA’s move to launch the impeachment process was in response to a proposal from the National Anti-Corruption Commission that the former defence minister should be impeached after he was faulted by the panel for interference with the defence permanent secretary’s committee in the annual reshuffle of officers in the Defence Ministry.

The NACC said that ACM Sukamphol had breached Sections 268 and 266 (1) (2) of the Constitution B.E. 2550, the Prime Minister’s Office regulations and code of conduct for political office holders.

NLA president Pornpetch Wichitcholachai said that the NACC had cleared the former defence minister of criminal violation and of misusing his authority in the reshuffle in accordance with Section 266 (3) of the charter B.E. 2550.

The anti-corruption watchdog also cleared former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra of negligence for failing to investigate the complaint of then defence permanent secretary and for proceeding the appointment of General Thanongsak Apirakyothin as the defence permanent secretary for Royal endorsement.

Must be a red shirt?

Handy that an abrogated constitution can be used to get rid of political opponents.

Just skip the pretense and jail everyone from the red side. Then reconciliation will be easy.

However the NLA said the NACC had cleared him of 266.(3)

Very big of them, perish the thought of them showing favouritism to the yellow side.

An appointed legislature to impeach an official no longer in office, under a Consitution that no longer applies.

The NACC had such good potential. Now, they are just part of the problem.
