Temple bells crush 3-year-old kindergarten girl to death

KORAT: -- A kindergarten girl was killed and two other boys injured when three big and heavy temple bells fell on them.

The incident happened at Wat Muang Kao temple in Nonthai district of Nakhon Ratchasima province this morning.

According to local police, 16 kindergarten children were escorted by their teacher from the adjacent Muang Kao Children Development Centre to visit the temple.

While most kindergarten children were playing at the temple ground, some children also went to play near the concrete structure where three giant bells were fixed on the beam.

Some climbed over the concrete poles which might be fractured or unstable.

The poles sank and the structure then collapsed on the ground with the three bells.

A 3-year-old girl identified as Piengkwan Namking was crushed to death by the bells, and two other boys injured.

They were immediately rushed to Nonthai hospital.

Nonthai district officer went to inspect the scene and ordered an investigation into the cause of the fatal collapse.

Inadequate supervision ?

What a tragedy for the girl's family.

More of a tragedy for the girl.

Thai people don't have this kind of catastrophic thinking that some irrational westerners have. They have a faith that evening happens for a reason, karma and all that.

Yes, everything does happen for a reason. But fate/karma is never it.

And who are you to disagree with approximately 4 billion people?

An enlightened one living in Pattaya, that spiritual Mecca, where old wise men renunciate to lol?

Of course things happen for a reason but I doubt in the case of a 3 year old karma had anything to do with it.

RIP little one. Heart felt condolences to the family

I also disagree with 4 billion other people. The only reason this happened is because some usless <deleted> didn't do their job properly.

Or maybe I am wrong and they/you are right. Would you care to enlighten me and tell me the reason a 3 year old girl had to die ?

Tragic.

But as usual shoddy workmanship , maintenance , building inspections etc etc. are all to blame.

If it's not school dorms burning then it's a building collapsing at a resort now this and who knows how many are not reported because there was no death or injuries.

You forgot the crumbling mall in Patong.

That's why they are still a 3rd World Country, and will continue to be for any foreseeable future.

I bet the parents of this little girl would today swap faith and karma for "catastrophic" thinking that "irrational" westerners have if it would have saved her.

Western checks and safety measures would have prevented this accident.

You can keep your faith and karma thank you.

Indeed.... So many poster on this forum rattle on about how Thailand is a buddhist country and all Thai's (if not of other Faiths) are or should be devout Buddhists when in reality many Thai's are about as spiritual as many Westerners, especially the Well educated Thai's I know.

Much of the temple going, spirit houses etc is more of a way of life, a cultural behaviour and following than any deep ingrained spiritual faith or belief.

I don't know any Thai's who would write this tragedy off as Karma - they'd be distraught beyond belief.

---

It is such a shame that Thailand, a country we all love fails in the most basic of care for its citizens... simple accountability at many levels could make huge waves in reducing these types of tragedy.

And no, this was not an accident... Someone didn't do their job properly.. (poor building, poor inspect, poor maintenance, poor supervision)

I'm sure her family is grieving, not saying "it's bad karma, let's move on." Even if you feel she died from bad karma the girl still DIED. If mourning is an irrational act to you, you're most likely a sociopath, most people have compassion. In fact, I'd even eager that most of those 4 million people mentioned would feel sad over the death of a child they didn't even know. Three is so young, she should have had a full life ahead of her. I hope she rests in peace.

RIP small heart

To be a child in TH it is the most dangerious thing in the world

I think being a child in war torn countries is slightly more dangerous. coffee1.gif

This is an accident, caused by crappy bells, like a lot of constructions here are crappy and unsafe because there is no maintaining against natural elements and termites and concrete rot etc. If any one with a brain had inspected the bells they would have known AND i'm pretty sure people at the wat knew it was old and rotten but in LOS it's each on his own. Responsibility ZERO. "Not my problem"-mentality. bah.gif

and that is why a lot of us like living here.

perhaps such a thing could not have happened in a more 'developed' country. but neither couldn't a lot of other things that i thoroughly enjoy here in my third world paradise.

I might be wrong but I understood Karma to be a fitting pay-back for worldly behaviour? Bad guys get a bad payback; good people get what they deserve. This 3 year old in all her innocence did not deserve this fate. This is down to man. Every week there's a Wat story which is often about villains - paedo/drunk/druggy monks/embezzling abbots. Seems to me Thai Buddhism deserves some bad karma some time soon.
