PATTAYA:--A Dutch fugitive wanted in Switzerland for the murder of a compatriot has been captured hiding out in Pattaya.

Ronnie Westdijk, 39, was captured June 6 by Chonburi Immigration police. He had arrived in Thailand on May 4 and was supposed to leave by June 2.

Police said Westdijk confessed to the charges of killing a Dutch woman in Switzerland during a robbery in which he made off with 4,000 euros and two expensive watches.

It's surprising how many fugitives are caught or hiding out in Pattaya.

If I was hiding out Pattaya is the last place I would head for.

Odd the fake 'copper' is all blurred out in the report today, but this lad is shown as clear as day......

not a Thai offence alledgedly commited by this guy,,,,,so no predujice in the Thai judicial system...

Why would he confess to the Thai police for an alleged murder in Switzerland? What a moron or wasn't he given his rights, ie he is allowed to keep his mouth shut and entitled to a solicitor. Is Thailand trying to jeopardise the case by forcing a confession from him?

As he's a fugitive with a warrant on him, he likely confessed or was convicted in Denmark and fled before sentencing or from jail. I can't imagine Danish jails being very secure...probably even have work release programs for murderers so able to go on the lam.

And why do criminals come to Thailand? That is what the Thais should be asking!

To be among their own kind dressed in brown? To join the monkhood to evade justice? To partake of legalised Ya-ba?

If you cant figure the reason out by now there is little hope that you ever will.

What has Denmark to do with a Dutch person arrested in Thailand?

Nothing!

You would be amazed how many people don't even know the Dutch are from the Netherlands or where it is.

The Dutch probably would have little interest in prosecuting him since he is wanted by Swiss authorities.
