My dog has cataracts. Needs surgery

Featured Replies

Hello all. My service dog has cataracts and needs surgery. Any veterinary doctor in Bangkok who performs this safely? Reason is I want to travel to Bangkok for some dental work myself and was wondering since cost of cataract surgery for dogs is unaffordable for most of us in usa. If anyone has any info please let me know. May Buddha bless you. Thank you.

Dave

You might check Kasetsart veterinary hospital. I know Drs in Bangkok that take their pets there. As it has a veterinary program that would be where other vets would learn.

Dear orchidlady, thank you very much for the information. We appreciate you taking the time to help a stranger in need. :)

Any idea/recommendation where I could hire a Thai translator/guide to take steps in planning my trip to Thailand and making an appointment at the hospital? I've visited Thailand once before but don't speak Thai at all. Lovely people and place.

At the government vet hospitals you are not going to be able to get an appointment, have to just show up and wait -- and expect long waits, and multiple visits to get the procedure done (likely a waiting list for the surgery). You should call though to see on what days the eye specialist is there as likely not every day.

There are going to be costs involved in bringing the dog from the US, both ways. In addition, you will be limited in what accomodation you can get, having a dog with you, and that will have the effect of meaning more expensive lodgings. Taking all that into consideration, the savings even at a government hospital may not be so great.

Can't help re translator. And be aware the government vet hospitals are not English-speaking friendly.

A private hospital which can do this and would be much easier to use than a government hospital, but also much more costly, is this one http://www.thonglorpet.com/inner_service-detail.php?id=2
