Hi,

I put a post on here regarding sending decks over to Thailand but it looks like its going to cost too much. Does anyone know the cost of Technics 1210s or 1200s in Thailand, are they cheaper or more expensive than the UK? Or even better anyone know of any second hand ones going?

Cheers

I have never seen them for sale here, but for sure they will cost a lot more than in the UK. A typical mark-up on imported stuff is 100% - for something specialised like 1210s I would expect a bit more. To give you an idea, I bought a cappucino machine for 80 quid back home and have seen it here for about £250!

As you probably know, most DJs here use CD mixers to do all the hard work for them. I've never seen decks.

Last time I was in Bangkok I remember seeing a couple of specialised electrical shops in Siam Paragon - that would be as good a place as any to start.

Good luck!

I thought Technics were made by Panosonic, which are a Jap make aren't they? I might be mistaken, but if thats the case then surely Technics will be cheaper or the same price? I know alot of DJs use CDs there, but theres still alot of clubs using decks in Bangkok, most places in RCA have turntables and there is a DJ shop there but cant find anywere on the net! And if you want to DJ cds like vinyl then you have to pay out alot for Pioneer CDJs, I've just got Serato so i'm keeping with the vinyl method of mixing, but still digital!

Cheers for your reply though mate!

Do you think that Panasonic import decks? I can't imagine they would bother as demand would be virtually nil.

I think you need a speciality import. Duty on imported electrical stuff is 70%.

I've seen them second-hand in Fortune Town (right at the top where the ''hi fi'' shops live). I have a vague memory of seeing a used (I think) 1200 for about 10,000 baht. (I may have the price wrong -- to be honest I wasn't paying attention, but you do see Technics DJ decks up there from time to time.) Whatever ... there are several shops selling new and used turntables up there (and various other DJ bits), so I suppose it would be worth your while paying a visit (Rama 9 tube station).

please explain how cdjs do the work for you. Can you spin or are you just trying to sound like you know what you are talking about? The latter seems most likely.

As for the ops question, 1200s or 1210s are usually brought in from singapore or hongkong but a few shops may have them.

there is mixup, in hollywood plaza who may have a reconditioned set available.

Jazzbah http://www.jazzbah.com/ in siam square has alot of decent kit and there are a few other places that sell sound and dj equipment like petch siam and anotherone that i cant remember the name of.

expect prices around 20k baht for one deck.

cheers

Why, what a nice guy. Pleased to make your acquaintance.

As I was aware CDJs use master tempo to match up the BPM of the 2 discs, without altering the pitch.

You don't have to be a DJ to know that.

you are wrong. i am not at all nice. nor am i making assumptions on things i know nothing about.

there are a few cheaper decks out there (numark) with auto beatmatch features, but most, if not all high end (read professional) decks do not have this. if you doubt me do a search read some specs or talk to a dj (if you know any)

you can lock the pitch (ie avoid making vocals sound like chipmunks) but you still need to match the bpm manually, just like a turn table. The only difference is it is much easier to exactly drop a track in with a cdj as there is not a lag as the tt gets up to speed that you need to adjust for.

CD is still simpler, because you don't have the manually place the needle; you can loop and it never jumps; plus CDs are cheaper.

But still takes some element of skill, and a good CD DJ can use the CD to do more than just play; can scratch etc as well and use some more the looping functions found on a fair few units.

Best for me back in the day when I DJed was 2 decks and 2 CDs, so you could easily play using both. Also helped with the downloaded tracks, as I don't know how to press a dubplate myself, using candy and stuff.

As I said, I got two 1200 decks, stanton needles, 500+ older records (house, old breakbeat stuff, some prog house, some other wierd rubbish), cabinets for the records, Rane 3 channel mixer (currently in disrepair and needs to be fixed), technics headphones, yamaha subwoofer; some of the things are wired 110V some 240V but I have the transformer anyway...

35,000b ONO. PM me if anyone wants this stuff, as it is just gathering dust in Lard Prao.

DJ Shop on RCA sells second hand reconditioned 1200's for ~17,000 baht. It's right near the S&P shop at the Rama 9 end.

Haven't got the means right now, but steveromagnino's deal sounds excellent.

thanks mate :-)

I have given up DJing, and instead embarked on a lucrative pasttime called sailing, also known as have a small piece of water displaced in a marina, where you then throw money into never to be seen again :-)

I'd like to purchase 1 CDJ800 and 1 1210 to force me into mixing CDs, but the cost will be too much! To mix CDs like vinyl is too much for my budget! I've got Serato, so i'm still mixing digital, but the good old fashioned way:)

That sounds a good deal mate, I dont suppose you'd sell items seperate? I dont need the mixer, head phones or yamaha subwoofer, i bet you've got some classic tunes but i wont have the space for 500 vinyl, thats why i went out and got Serato this year. I'll be over 29th December, so if you still have them then i'll look you up mate if your willing to sell the decks!

Cheers for all your replys!
