I decided to do a reinstall of my 28 year-old toilet. I brought a flange with me from my last trip to the US. I pulled the old Karat up, and it was for a 12" rough in, and they had "made it fit." So, I would like to do it right. the flange covers up the part of the pipe they cut out, and I have it screwed tightly into the concrete. Will they even know what a 10" rough in toilet is? Can I get one for more like 2000 than 10000? Any specifics would be appreciated. I live in Chiang Mai, and we have a decent selection of stores.

that's the distance from the hole in the floor's midpoint to the wall....it tends to be a little over 10 inches, and they try to put 12 inch toilets on them...and that is why most toilet installs are shoddy and one of the reasons there are 1000s of reports of sewer gas and bad smells.

The hole is custom made for the toilet in every case I have seen (and they have installed 4 more units in my home). Perhaps in a condo there might be a standard observed. The toilets are cemented fully around base so no odor is getting out from there.

Have not had gas from toilets or heard reports of it - the bad smells I have observed are from general grey water drains that become dry and are found in all Thai bathrooms. Older may not even have trap but when have trap it is just a ring of water which if not used often drys out allowing smell to enter.

that would be fine if toilets lasted forever, but they don't...80% are made for the same 305mm clearance. The concrete seal isn't as good as silicon, but will last a long time (with air leaks).

I have adapter left over from my house.whit this you cane play to 2 inches ( for 400 mm pipe)

1) did you buy it in Thailand?

2) does that require digging out in front of the existing one, or would it be easier to raise the floor, and if so, ho much higher would the floor be?

I actually dug it out in a house, and moved it three inches, exposing the crawl space, but in an old condo...it's different. I definitely could raise the floor up.

I built my own house here and "roughed in " the toilets at 12 inches. I bought the adapter plates for my Cotto toilets at Home Pro and the floor attachment holes were 2" slots so the plates would fit either a 10" or 12" rough-in. They actually came with the proper wax seals and ere installed 17 years ago with no cement, sealed with silicone around the base and I have never had any smell.

Since your adapter plates do not seem to have slots for installation, why not fit the adapter plates to the drain hole and either drill new holes in the plates or add new anchors in the floor.
