Where to have screening for STI’s in Khon Kaen

Hello,

I am from the UK and stayed in Khon Kaen for 2 months Dec 2015 and Jan 2016. During this time I was with a Thai lady and we got along well.

I was always careful and used a condom for protection. Rightly or wrongly I am very cautious about being safe from STI’s.

I am in the UK now. I am waiting for a hernia operation, it is taking longer than I thought, our NHS (National Health Service) can be very slow for routine operations. That and other reasons I cannot reasonably return to Khon Kaen until this coming November.

I am planning to stay for at least 4 months this time and at the end make some decisions as if we still get along well again I would not like or feel it fair to her to be apart for a long time again.

Soon after I arrive this coming November I would like us both to have an STI screening. I know I am clean but she does not know that. She says she is clean. I believe her but I need confirmation.

Does anyone know of the best hospital or other place in or around Khon Kaen that does STI screening tests?

Is it something that is encouraged in Thailand?

There's a hospital in the centre of Udon Thani I'm sure would do screening,I once rented an apartment in there for a month which was pretty cool!

I would be very surprised if the bigger hospitals do not offer STI/STD tests from blood and urine samples.

Most (but not all) STDs can be diagnosed from such samples.

The Khon Kaen RAM has a big lab just next to the section where the routine checkups are done.

Might be a good idea to do one of their routine checkup programs and ask for additional in-depth testing for STDs.

If you want more (physical examination) that is a different topic.

But also Khon Kaen RAM would be a good bet.

RAM is not cheap.

There are cheaper places like Samitivej and quite likely private clinics (which I don't know).

For the highest prices in town goto Bangkok Pattaya Hospital.

Hi Keith all hospitals will do STD tests

They have a check up program and a pre marital check up comes in at around 2.000 baht

Different packages up to the full MOT atqround 11.000 baht.

Do not go to Ram or Bangkok as the same tests are double and done most probably by the same doctors freelancing from the main hospital

Rachapreuk is still pricey but best of the private hospitals pound for pound.

MrRed - Thank you. I first had a look at the promotions at rachapreau hospital for health checks, males 6,000 Baht and females 9,000 Baht. I thought these to be expensive. But I re read your message and a pre marital check up sounds good and probably what I am looking for at about 2,000 Baht.

I started knowing nothing, now I have bookmarks and Google maps saved for the 3 hospitals in Khon Kaen.

It is a good start.

I am still wondering if there are other places that specifically test just for STI's maybe helped by the Thai government due to HIV in Thailand, or maybe places like the red cross? HIV is my greatest concern from the little knowledge I have.

In Korat. There is a private lab next to Klang Plaza 2 that does all kinds of tests including HIV. The tests are not expensive. I would think that Khon Kaen would have at least one similar lab located in town.

Treat your lady to a full test in Thailand and get yours done for nothing in the UK

Sounds like you are more worried about her as you state you are clean so no worries just pay for her check here and get yours done in the UK and show her the results.

As for clinics i dont know of any that JUST do std tests but i am sure they are out there but?....for peace of mind better at a hospital i would think.

Ken - Thanks for you comments, my Thai girlfriend has a very close friend that lives in Korat so I have made a note.

MrRed - I think you are right, I did have full tests here in the UK about 2 years ago and was clean. I only received a txt message that stated "OK" from the NHS STI clinic (in the UK it is now known as the GUM clinic) but I guess they would provide written results if asked.

A little story why I had the tests done - At that time I had an intimate time with an English lady I know well (but not fully compatable for a full relationship), two days later I started to have a feeling of something in my throat and I was worried. I went to the GUM clinic, the person assured me it cannot be any STI due to my intimate time. I also went to see my doctor. I kept repeating that it was too much of a coincidence two days after the intimate time. I saw my doctor maybe 7 times, had swabs of my throat. I went back to the GUM clinic, they said they do not usually take swabs of throat even for females but I insisted. My doctor stated saying that it cannot be an infection because it has lasted too long (5 weeks) and also stated asking if I suffer stress and anxiety, also stated to talk about possible cancer. I had to almost beg on my kneels to be referred to the hospital to have a camera inserted down my throat.

I am pleased to say it was a simple Thrush fungal infection and was soon cleared. I know our NHS on the whole is very good but my doctor was not interested doing anything to stop the same thing happening again .... crazy.

Sorry to get side tracked. Now after thinking again I will do as you suggest and have my tests done here in the UK and ask for written results.
