wooloomooloo Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Has anyone very recently travelled on Thai business class and is it worth the outlay? My wife and I recently flew EVA business and were suitably impressed. I note some very competitive return fares for mid-November as EVA's fares have shot up in the last few days. Many thanks in advance.
Cook my sock Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 I've only walked through on the way to economy! But I was very impressed with the modern fleet of 777s on the London route. EVA 777s are starting to look a bit old inside imo I flew my mum business on EVA and she didn't find the bed position comfortable so will fly her over on Thai in a few months
flyDelight Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Not for me thanks, you can't even look trough the window and it looks totally claustrophobic like a Tupperware box. EVA Air Elite is good enough for me.
Cook my sock Posted June 19, 2016 Posted June 19, 2016 Yes good observation about the window seats, it's staggered on Thai airways unlike EVA but half the seats in that class will be aisle seats anyway. I still think Thai business class looks better for space tho. Eva has some skinny looking seats!
Jdiddy Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 Not for me thanks, you can't even look trough the window and it looks totally claustrophobic like a Tupperware box. EVA Air Elite is good enough for me. Thats an isle seat, the seat infront is next to the window
Khun Han Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 That footrest part of the seat looks a bit of an uncomfortable angle for sleeping.

Thai have their outer rows in a staggered link all facing forwards, so only half have a clear window seat.
Cook my sock Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 For me I'd choose the Thai design. It's newer with more modern screen, it has more space IMO, more privacy and the seat cushion/bed is much wider. Thai F&B is miles better too. I'm not even sure EVA folds completely flat, my mum said there was some issue with it which stopped her sleeping.
chainarong Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 There is nothing wrong with flying Thai Business class , I do it all the time , except on short haul, I prefer the airbus 330-300 to the 787 Dreamliner in business but that's my choice..................................
Cook my sock Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 With Thai business class there are window seats.. I think some are under the impression all seats are in the aisle
tw25rw Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 There is little difference in comfort between Thai and EVA. Both are good enough if you can get a good price. Neither are particularly comfortable. I'm longer/wider than most and got some sleep.
manfredtillmann Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 With Thai business class there are window seats.. I think some are under the impression all seats are in the aisle yes, but if you fly with a friend or partner there are only a handful of options which allow you to sit NEXT to each other. and non of them are window access. in the entire thai airways a380 business class section there are only (i think) 4 choices for people wanting to talk to each other without getting up. and the furthermost rear ones are so close to the dunnies that on these very quiet planes you wake up every time someone flushes.
Cook my sock Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I forgot Thai operate the a380 on the day route...

You admit in an earlier post to not having used EVAs service so how can you then comment. I have used both on many occasions and would take EVA over Thai. I am not Thai bashing I just prefer EVA, look a the number of crew EVA have in Business compared to Thai, the level of catering on EVA is a full 5 course meal when departing BKK . Both use 777-300 EVA gets 38 Business seats and Thai 42 in a slightly smaller space (check seatguru.com) ... I have tried both so think I am in a better position to compare. Trying to assess EVA business class catering if you have only flown cattle.........
Bredbury Blue Posted June 20, 2016 Posted June 20, 2016 I flew 18 months back bkk to frankfurt return in that type of Thai Airways and it was fantastic. I'm tall and it was very comfortable sitting or sleeping lay down. Service was excellent, food and drink was very nice (breakfast less so). I was in the middle row section. They have a pair together in the centre 2 of what would be 4 seat spaces, and I was on the alternate row of 2 seats, one on each end of a row of what would be 4 seats which meant I was miles away from my row neighbour which was excellent. If I was to go again I'd be ok in the same seat or in the individual window row seats. Previous year I flew the same route business class in lufthansa - old style layout, go NO sleep. I definitely like the modern cubicle style and thai was excellent.

Last year I put my mum in business while I sat in coach. I did get to have a close look en route that time. I'm only giving my opinion based on what was reflected in my earlier posts.
wooloomooloo Posted June 20, 2016 Author Posted June 20, 2016 I forgot Thai operate the a380 on the day route... I'm avoiding the A380 like the plague. I'd like to try it out one day but getting to BKK at 6am saps my will to live.

MyFrenU Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 I take it you're flying only EVA or Thai as they are direct, why not take a short stopover in Doha with Qatar? The business class lounge there is absolutely excellent, with a la carte restaurants, upmarket sandwich bars, baristas and fine wines all laid on for free! You will be sad to get back on the plane to continue your journey I promise you!
Cook my sock Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 I used to take Qatar but I just prefer the night direct flights. One thing I'm looking into are business flights direct from Paris or Amsterdam.. and getting a cheap flight over from London. It's so much cheaper!!
MyFrenU Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Skyscanner is good for one-way business class flights : https://www.skyscanner.com/
Cook my sock Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 Yes that's how i normally book. Also googleflights are sometimes very cheap. Another is keeping up to date on airline offers

Thais biggest earner to the UK is the 01:00 flight as this allows tourists a full final day, hence why they use the A380 on that flight. When I used to use Thai to London the 01:00 had a small premium on it as opposed to the noon flight.

Finnair, with an Easyjet from Helsinki, is sometimes a good option along similar lines.
Cook my sock Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Thats a brilliant suggestion! Btw first noticed the massive difference in long haul air fares between uk and Europe when I booked a couple of finnair tickets from Paris to BK for relatives..about 1300euros per ticket!
wooloomooloo Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Thanks for all your input, chaps. I finally booked TG business this evening. It really was down to the price at £1,596 per head on Thai as opposed £1,800 for EVA. Just that time of year, I suppose. Booked 2135h from LHR on 777-300ER and return 1320h from BKK. It's our preferred timings. It'll be interesting to compare the product against EVA, though I've no beef with EVA by the way.
tw25rw Posted June 26, 2016 Posted June 26, 2016 My only gripe with Thai was a very minor thing... On the 777, the seat had no real armrest on one side. On the A380, there was, though the seat was otherwise the same. Thai in London uses the United lounge, which is nicer than the Air Canada lounge used by EVA.

They are very good prices, flying the other way BKK-LHR-BKK Thai are normally >30k฿ more than EVA or BA in business.
