BANGKOK: -- Yesterday, at an event for International Domestic Workers' Day, which was June 16, workers asked the government to start enforcing the issued regulations that protect their rights.

Enforcement of these regulations would help to improve the sometimes poor working and living conditions of employees including maids and nannies.

Though the regulations promise them 30 days of paid sick leave each year and overtime pay if they are asked to work on their days off, many home employers may not be following the guidelines.

The 30 days sick leave plus the 8 days personal leave combined with the public holidays gives some real nice long weekends without dipping into any of my 6 weeks annual leave.

This Really shows what kind of Tight Ass People are Employing their staff,,,

I bet my Left One If they had to do the job ,they would not work more than

35 Hrs a Week and For a lot more money than what they pay their staff now.

They would have to have sick days on top of their Annual Leave.

Less than three years ago the minimum wage was implemented at 300 per day in certain areas including Pattaya . My place of residence saw the wage for cleaners increase from 6500 baht to 9000 baht per month in one swoop. The cleaners worked very hard and deserved the increase however the 30 day with pay holiday is a crippling blow for small business operators. Most Thai domestic workers wouldn't know what to do with thirty days off and prefer to work .

its 1 sick day every 1.73 weeks. Am sure if given the chance they will gladly take that day off, even moreso as it is a paid day.
