Ouch - a school day one seven year old boy will never forget

BANGKOK: -- A seven year old Thanyaburi schoolboy had a day he will never forget on Monday - he was playing with friends when he was pushed onto a metal rod that went straight up his back passage.

Medics armed with cutting gear rushed to the school in the Prachathibat sub-district of Pathum Thani after teachers could not get the rod out. They managed to cut it before taking the boy to Pathumwet Hospital so doctors could continue treatment.

The boy is in P2 or the second year of primary school. His aunty said that he had been larking about with friends when he was pushed and fell on the rod that was part of a ping pong table.

No update on the boy's condition was reported.

He was named in the Thairath article but Thaivisa has decided not to name him lest he becomes the butt of schoolboy jokes.

Today the metal rod was s till available for all to "play" with in the playground

Throughly understand the teachers dilemma .

It's been reported over many years that teachers have had problems removing rods from school kids back passages.

It's a curse!

I have no words for this terrible accident, and shiver just thinking about it............hope he comes out okay, so many things can go wrong in that area that can effect him for life...........wai.gif

I'm sure many people walked past that rod without giving it a thought. This kind of thing just shouldn't be possible but who cares? The kids should have been more careful, it's their fault

I hope he has a quick and complete recovery without being teased too much.

Yes, we understand.wink.png

Best wishes to the lad for a safe and quick recovery from this nasty accident.

Kids are entrusted by their parents to school, but schools repeatedly fail to keep the children safe. Whether it's being left locked inside a minivan for hours and dying of heat stroke, or falling out of the back of a minivan because the doors aren't secure, or being made sick by the school milk, or being injured by unsafe environments. It's completely unacceptable, but where's the anger? Until Thai people learn to demand better treatment (in pretty much every aspect of life), the country will continue to suffer, and children will be killed and maimed whilst under the auspices of those who should be keeping them safe.

Again the inability of people here to see potential hazards amazes me.

Obviously you have never played table tennis. The posts that hold the net could cause serious injuries if you fell on them. Ban the game?

Spear the rod and spoil the child.

I do agree with what you've said. I sometimes have the same situation when I point out something like that which locals fail to see.

I'm never certain whether it's them being unaware, or ferangs being more observant along with our upbringing, teaching us to look for potential problems.

Thai schools don't care ,if they cared they wouldn't try to make the children deaf buy blasting music at unbearable volume at the schools

I was naked, standing on a chair cleaning the windows, and I fell off and accidentally landed bottom first on a bowl of fruit.

My sister is a nurse.

Don't mention the hoover or the Buzz Light-year toy.

Nothing in this post is true, apart from my sister.

I suspect that there is very little truth in the OP.

lets hope he makes a full recovery.

No it cant be the kids fault, they need to learn this when young.......its the rods fault silly

Welcome to the dark side....

I too am often amazed by remnant bits of Reebar or concrete left behind following removal of previous structures. The other day I saw a 3" piece of iron protruding from the road at the side of a junction near my home. Great for tyres that is, I thought. And all too often see similar on pavement areas where many people will be walking ( or tripping ).

Spear the rod and spoil the child.

I suppose there is no chance you may feel sorry for this youngster who may possibly have to face years or even a lifetime of disability from a horrific injury------------ you people make me sickbah.gif

I'd had similar thoughts along the lines of "if the bar has perforated the lining of the intestine, faecal and other bacteria will have enter the body cavity, and this could well be fatal. I wonder how the 'humorous' posters will feel if he dies in the next few days".

...all these 'educators' with titles and degrees....

..don't ask for any forethought or wherewithal though....

Speaking from personal experience? :)

Do you think those are all actors in the picture wearing doctors uniforms surrounding a half naked kid for entertainment?

People say Thais are stupid and in general, they are, but you could definitely blend right in....

Poor guy , relentless teasing to follow

Why is it necessary to show the picture for the article?

''He was named in the Thairath article but Thaivisa has decided not to name him lest he becomes the butt of schoolboy jokes.''

I thought the picture was bad enough...

Why is it necessary to show the picture for the article?

For that matter, why was it necessary for anyone to have taken the photo in the first place?
