Looking to start a career in the downstream oil and gas industry but don't want to commit the time and expense necessary to earn a bachelor's degree? Consider pursuing a certificate to become a process technician, instrumentation technician or specialist in a host of other fields – many of which are in high demand by employers in the downstream. According to one training authority, taking the relative fast-track to a career through certification is an increasingly popular option.

"Almost 70 percent of the careers available today require less than a four-year degree but more than a high school diploma," said Jennifer Wilkerson, marketing director with NCCER, a Florida-based not-for-profit organization that develops standardized curricula and assessments for the construction industry.
