BANGKOK: -- Minburi police are looking for a man who produced a knife and tried to stab a youth. But the young man's girlfriend intervened and was stabbed in the hand.

The attack was caught on video and sparked comment about a possible fight between rival educational institutions, reported tnamcot. Police said this was not the case - it was an altercation between a drunk man and a youth, they said.

The girl suffered a wound to her thumb that required four stitches after the attack on Sunday in front of a convenience store near the Minburi market.

Police will be interviewing the victim, named only as Suthida, today. They said that the attack resulted from trouble between a drunk man and the girl's boyfriend. The drunk produced a knife and Suthida put out her hand to help her boyfriend and suffered the injury as a result.

Police have studied CCTV and are on the trail of the assailant.

Yep. I carry one when I do my road trips. Combat knife, well concealed, but quickly accessable. And, yes, I definitely know how to use it. Fortunately, in the 6 years of road trips, I've never had to.

I have yet run into anyone that can knock a bullet out of the air. Never bring a knife to a gun fight. And yes I know how to use mine.

Well, seeing as how a farang getting caught with a gun is a hell of a lot more serious a crime than getting caught with a knife, that kind of simplifies matters. But aside from the knife, I was a Marine for 20 years, hold a 3rd degree black belt in Military Martial Arts, and a 2nd degree black belt in Shotokhan, and in 7 years only had to resort to that one time. I do my best to constantly be aware of my surroundings, and quickly walk away at the first sign of anything amiss.

I think you've offered the best approach for dealing with the potential danger here...avoid it...farangs are not only at a social disadvantage, but completely outnumbered...

I used to carry a gun and sometimes a sword and I certainly knew how to use them!. Then after my ninth birthday I got a racing bike and left my little boy toys behind. Such a shame that others haven't grown up yet.
