Urgent Advice Needed

Featured Replies

About 3 weeks ago I applied for a 1 year extension on my visa for marriage purposes at Khon Kaen immigration office.

The officer asked us to buy him some Regency Brandy and my wife handed over 500Baht. He telephoned us earlier today to say he was on his way to confirm my address despite me presenting a yellow Tabien Ban with my application. He asked my wife to have an envelope ready for him. He thinks she is soft (which she is) and is coming back for seconds.

My feeling is we should give him nothing.

I am thinking of taking a photo of him and posting it here but my wife is fearful this will bring problems to us.

Is there anyone I can report this to without getting a problem for my visa extension.

The guy has history with us of asking for money as a while back he asked for 1000 Baht to facilitate my next 90 day report.

Any advice appreciated

-posts like this make me feel ordinary/not wanted i have never been asked for gifts/extras maybe i will get lucky this year

1111 - all Govt. complaints by foreigners.

I also suggest get a photo and name and that you insist he deal with You and in English.

Don't pay - go further up the food chain.

For others info. This guy sits 3rd from left in the 4 desks at Khon Kaen office.

Don't give in to his requests for money/whisky/brandy as he will just come back for more.

I do fully agree with Evilbaz...... I also have Khon Kaen, and I did also got picked for many years ago (2010) when they opened... After that, next time, I refused to pay, I wrote about it here, just like you have done... And that guy was kicked out/removed next time I was there 3 months later.

It is a real shame that this happens there, I have nothing but really good to say about Khon Kaen otherwise since then. Always good, treat fair, honest treatment...

I agree DO NOT GIVE IN TO THESE <deleted>.... Photograph them and spread the photos..

I recorded the "conversation" on my cell phone eight years ago.

Turn off recording in front off him so he saw it, no bribes asked for eight years now. thumbsup.gif

Yes, phones are as powerful as the force.

It would be interesting to know what was said in your conversation.

My first went along the lines that for 1000 Baht my next 90 day report could be handled without my attending. Postal and internet ways were said to be not working. I think the reason we were thought of as prey was that we are a 2 1/2 hour drive from Khon Kaen. I refused to pay and the officer overheard me telling my wife that he was playing games with us.

The second conversation was last month when unfortunately we ended up in front of the same guy when applying for my 1 year extension and my wife felt obliged to donate 500 Baht to the police drinking fund.

Today 2 of the Khon Kaen immigration guys arrived at my house. The man from number 1 and number 3 desks from the left. I had already made sure the poo yai ban was available but they wanted the number 2 village boss as well to confirm I lived there. This was over the top especially as I have a yellow Tabien Ban book.

They hung around for ages drinking my beer and waiting for their envelope. I gave them nothing and took photos of them both.

If they give me any hassle re the actual extension stamp I will publish the pics here and report them.

In 17 years of doing the same thing in Bangkok I have never had a problem but it seems out in the sticks they try to extract money from anyone they think is soft enough to coerce.

It is a sad reflection on the police in Khon Kaen but from what I have read about dodgy marriage visa extension being granted in the past in that area I guess I shouldn't be surprised..

The crazy thing is that next year I will be able to do my extension through a soon to be opened Chayaphum office and they will want to go through the whole intensive process again because it will be my first time applying through their office.

The nightmare scenario is that the guy from Khon Kaen trying to extort money from me this year gets transferred to the new Chayaphum office to help get it up and running.

I was at KK Immigration today and can confirm that both of those gentlemen were not at their desks.
