Brexit: German Chancellor Angela Merkel treads a careful political line

BERLIN: -- Conciliatory, even eager to meet the demands of British Prime Minister David Cameron. Since the beginning German Chancellor Angela Merkel supported his wish for a European agreement on measures to prevent the United Kingdom leaving the EU.

But the German Chancellor has not commented directly on her thoughts on the referendum which will decide if the UK remains in Europe.

But she has indicated her preferences on the subject on several occasions.

“Everybody speaks from their own perspective. I say it from my perspective: we want an economically strong and prosperous Britain in the European Union. The decision belongs to the citizens of Great Britain,” was one view she gave and at the end of May again spoke of her wishes while adding a caveat.

“There are signs that all of us who are sitting here, I think, wish for Great Britain to remain part of the European Union but this is of course to be decided by the British voters.”

Trade was her theme at the start of June when she said: “And regarding the trade relations which are important for Germany and Great Britain and for all of us, one country alone cannot reach such good results.

‘That’s why I am certain that it benefits all of us and it would also benefit the British people, to bring all their powers into the negotiations as part of the European Union. And that it will be better for the British people rather than it coming from the outside.”

Cameron has been all over the TV and the press today telling the little people that if we vote to stay that will give him a mandate to press for more reform in the EU in the coming months. Corbyn when he can be ar*ed to say anything about the EU says we must stay in the EU to reform it and make it better. Well with just one day to go before the people vote Juncker has just announced that Cameron will get no more reform of any kind and that he got as much as he was ever going to get, which amounted to nothing any way.

Another kick in the teeth for Cameron and the remainiacs is the head of the German business association, Markus kerber saying that it would be madness and desperate to put tariffs on british exports which sort of puts pay to the myth that if we leave the EU is going to hit us with punitive tariffs. The Eurozone is in enough mess as it is without it making it worse by doing such lunacy.

Merkel: "Please stay. We need you to absorb some of these immigrants that I invited." dry.png

1285 "chiefs" of industry have come forward to beg the UK to stay. I wonder what the "Indians" will have to say on the subject today. Will they have the back bone and fibre to leave or will they fold up their tent and aquiesse to the "chiefs"

Its not that simple.

Much as I hate the cost of the EU (not to mention the way it spends money on the already rich), I have no doubt that a 'brexit' vote will result in more right-wing policies from both the Brit. govt. and the EU.

The only real vote you have in life is with your feet. If you want the EU to be reformed

you have to vote Brexit. The UN, EU, FIFA, IOC, all are nothing more than fat cats at

the feeding trough. We all complain about corruption in third world countries because

it is easy to see but in the developed world it is far more difficult and protected by laws.

Lobby groups are how it is closeted in the USA. The EU is the European equivalent.

Vote out and help make the world a better place. Nothing to do with immigration as far

as I am concerned and everything to do with ending fat cat corruption. coffee1.gif

I am sure the Phoenix will raise from the ashes, so today we light the fire, tomorrow we survey the damage and mourn at our losses, and one day the Phoenix will be reborn.

Indeed. Backbone is what is needed, and I'm very afraid the average chicken-**** worker will cave in and do what they're told.

More right-wing policies? Excellent - just what the UK and Europe need. clap2.gifthumbsup.gif

Merkel has overseen the culmination of decades of PanEuropa socialist maneuverings. If any believe this same EU democratic grand theft will now be tempered because [they've] rattled their own cages and Merkel & Company heard [their] anger, [they] deserve to be in cages.

Have you folks really not noted the red wine and the bread being handed out in the EU and UK circuses these past weeks? Are [you] really that blind? The Rubicon's breeched and people whine for stuff...fools.

Alea iacta est
