I ate this fish 2 years ago, bought from a local market. It is the only fish that tastes good in Thailand market (for my taste). Then I couldn't find it again. It was 200 baht per kilo and sized 1.5 - 2 kg per fish.

Now I see Makro imported it from Cleanseas brand (Australia). They have a website too

http://www.cleanseas.com.au/main/kingfish.html

However, this fish was sold for 319 baht/kg in Buriram Makro (and I didn't buy it). Back to Bangkok now and price is 569 baht/kilo. I bought a small slice for test and yes it taste damn good. But at this price, I'd buy Salmon.

Fish is about 3-4 kg in size and an oily fish (perfect for barbeque or cook in pan without oil).

My question is, did anybody see this fish sold somewhere, perhaps cheaper?

I tried mackerel (sabah fish), but I don't like its taste in my homecountry, same goes in here. When you eat salmon too often, law of diminishing returns apply to the taste.

Seabass / sea perch is river fish (not easy to find one from Sea).

Not much choice of tasty fish in Thailand despite the fact it is god d4mn sea-food country!

I find that seafood that lives in warm water tends to be less tasty than similar seafood from cold water, presumably because it grows faster in the warm water. The texture can be less firm also.

Buriram Makro is not the place to pick up great fish.

Go trawl the beaches until you find a small market...find someone to grill it for you there and then and enjoy your fantastically fresh fish as it should be eaten.

I doubt that you will find yellowtail much cheaper. It was grown in Australia and flown to Thailand. If the Thai importers do not pay the international market price, the Aussies will ship it somewhere else. The price will be similar to salmon.

Thailand has some good local fish. Go to the market and start exploring. You will find something that you like.

Well, I don't like warm water fish (no oil).

Only fish I can eat here is Taptim (red fish). I used to eat seabass (from river probably) but it never tasted okay.

Because I found 200 baht/kg kingfish before in local market, I thought perhaps it can be found. That one I bought did not have yellow tail, but taste same.
