DIT proceeds with standardization of pre-packaged goods

BANGKOK, 23 June 2016 (NNT) – The Department of Internal Trade (DIT) is pushing forward with the effort to raise the standard of pre-packaged products, with an aim of fostering trust among consumers.

Director-General of the DIT Wiboonlasana Ruamraksa has presided over a ceremony to present three manufacturing companies with the International Quantity (IQ) Mark, which is to be affixed to over 200 items of their pre-packaged goods to guarantee standard production and packaging. The IQ Mark will be effective for three years.

The three certified companies consist of Siam Makro Company Limited, Chumporn Palm Oil Industry Plc and White House Cleaning Products Company Limited.

Ms Wiboonlasana pointed out that the granting of the IQ Mark helps build consumer confidence and raise Thai products’ competitiveness both in the domestic and overseas markets. Currently, the Ministry of Commerce is in talks with other ASEAN nations about the idea of adopting the same standard for pre-packaged goods so as to reduce the need for product reexamination and cut costs for operators.
