BANGKOK: -- A "Tops Daily" store in Sukhumvit Road, Bangkok, has been shut after a rat was filmed nibbling and clambering all over the donuts in the bakery section.

The video posted online shocked a Thai public that demanded swift action from the store, reported Daily News. The brown rodent is seen in the minute long clip feasting on a chocolate donut as it scampers about the bakery products before disappearing above the counter into the heart of the store.

Daily News online were on the case and executives of Central Food Retail Co Ltd were quick to react shutting the store in Soi 33 for cleaning and calling in pest control experts. They issued a groveling apology as they attempted to reassure customers.

Pattaraporn Penpraphat a deputy marketing and PR manager said: "As soon as we received notification about this incident we closed the store. Everything is being cleaned thoroughly.

"All products and equipment in the bakery section has been thrown away and is being replaced with new. The owner of the building from whom we rent has been contacted to find out how the mouse got in and out of the store to ensure that it cannot happen again.

"A pest control company has been contacted and is carrying out a full operation against a range of pests including rodents.

"We would like to apologize unreservedly to our customers and assure them that we will do everything to ensure that this is not repeated. All staff in all stores have been contacted as a matter of urgency to ensure that our high standards of cleanliness are maintained strictly and at all times".

Traditional Thai Food meets traditional American Food.

I find the banning of such fusion distasteful and xenophobic. Come together as one, let's not discriminate against one's traditional diet.

And I'm sure this is the first time rats were ever spotted at this store so Central Food Retail is now jumping all over the problem.

I'm sure none of the current store employees or management ever saw any rodents until this particular incident. whistling.gif

Consumers pay a premium to buy these goods in the expectation that a 'reputable ' company would have higher standards than the average bakery. Tops baked goods are far from cheap. As for the PR spin doctor calling it a mouse....

"All products and equipment in the bakery section has been thrown away and is being replaced with new.

Please send me the equipment very bery much please. Not sure what kind of retard would actually trash the equipment too, provided I can (....though shouldn't) take it at face value and assume that is true.

But the only "issue" I'm seeing here is the rat having been filmed on the food etc, for as many times I've been in restaurants and whatever else you can call some of these places, rats are running across the premise and nobody thus far actually gave a damn about it, contrary pointing and giggles/laughs at best.

That aside, a lot of problems with architectural failures through add ons and what have you, cracks inbetween tiles and skirting boards, not to mention actual holes and whatever nonesense one gets to see here.

I don't understand what stories are allowed and what stories are not allowed. Why is it that this store can be named and shamed but similar stories have their names censored on here? Just curious.

what goes on the cover of darkness at night nobody knows.

this case has come to light. how is the owner of the building

to know how a rodent got in and out of the building. is that not

a job for the pest control company.

have regular pest control measures in place to minimise such

disgusting incidents.

There are rats all over the place here. Tell me you couldn't go out tonight and film rats running through the local street markets or across the filthy restaurants all over the nation. I'm sure every Tops, BigC and Tesco has some too. Cockroaches are even easier to find. It's normal here. As the water in the sewers and under buildings rise in BKK you'll see even more. No use stressing out too much.
