rustinorman
Since I've upgraded from Snow Leopard to Yosemite (last year) my iMac won’t connect to the wifi hotspot set up on my Samsung. (For good reasons I haven't upgraded to El Capitan.} The error message always says “no ip address”. I’ve tried everything to no avail. Even changing the phone's ssid didn't help. I'm running out of options. Any advise how to get that working is much appreciated Thanks Edited June 25, 2016 by rustinorman
phetphet
Google self assigned IP address. Or these might help: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3864270?tstart=0 http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macbook-self-assigning-ip-address-cant-connect-to-wifi.1724892/
bubba
Just curious: for what "good reasons" have you not upgraded to El Cap?
rustinorman
it's off topic but I'll answer bubba's question. Some of Adobe's software (I use it for business) doesn't run as it should under El Capitan. Back to my hot-spot issue. Thanks for the links but non of the solutions mentioned have solved my problem. Sometimes I think Apple doesn't like Android phone users. I've tested with an iPhone and the connection was established immediately.

I just switched to an Android phone and the experience using it with a Mac is pretty painful. It does seem like it is designed to make the process of doing anything as painful as it can be. Good luck.
