PCX starting problem solved

Featured Replies

Hi all, just a quick heads up to any out there that may experience the same problem I had recently.

For some time now starting my PCX has been a pain and required a real squeeze on the brake lever and many attempts on the starter button to get it going. I called into Honda who simply charged up the battery but this didn't solve it.

I then searched the forums and came across a 2 yr old post by someone called 'atesci' (many thanks to atesci for this).
I changed the brake levers a week or so ago and it turns out this was the culprit as the rear brake lever has 2 lugs on it that release tiny plungers that activate the brake light and allow the starter to operate...the new brake lever simply didn't have quite enough 'clearance' to do that for the starter.
The solution is quick and easy, remove the lever and bend the offending plastic lug back. All done within minutes and now back to normal smile.png

Think this applys to most all Automatic bikes but with 2 levers pretty easy to determine the faulty one

I also have had problems starting my 150 PXC these past few weeks. Sometimes it appears that the piston comes up on compression but doesn't actually go over to start, the sort of thing you might get with a flat battery, I put a new battery in which has not solved the problem, battery voltage is good so I do not believe it is the battery. It starts ok after warming up a few seconds. Almost sounds like the coil or whatever that starts it is weak. I also put a new plug in but this made no difference. About 40,000 Ks. Would take it in to a Honda workshop but as soon as they try it it will start as it is warmed up. If it had an old fashioned distributer I would retard the timing a wee bit but the timing is controlled by the computer. Anyone have any ideas, thanks.

I think Hondas idle stop scooters like the PCX start via the alternator and don't actually have starter motors.

The PCX, right side, brake light switch. (That little tit on the bottom gets pushed in to complete the circuit.)

The left side also has the safety start switch included and cost quite a bit more.

I know this because my car wash guy thinks they need pressure washed.
