Hey, i have applied for a volunteer visa in Chiang Mai, Thailand but i need to go to another country to apply for it at a thai embassy and i have been told it can only be done in Laos? But the trip to laos is very long and i would prefer to go to another country if possible?

Which countrys can i apply for this in at the embassy?

There is no place closer than Vientiane where you can apply for the single entry non-o visa based upon being a volunteer.

If you mean closer as travel time you can fly from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani and take a van to the bridge in Nong Khai and then cross to Vientiane.

Most other places you could go would mean flying to Bangkok first to get to where you could apply for the visa and be sure it would be issued.

Don't forget you also need a work permit.

I just want a direct fly to a country that has the airport close to the embassy as we are taking are bicycles and the cycle from udon thani to vientiane is 80km which is fine but we would prefer not to have to cycle this far if possible.

Savannakhet Laos via Bangkiok. Lao Airways direct from BKK. Or fly/ride service from DMK to Mukdahan on Nok Air and then to the bridge.

The consulate in Penang Malaysia is an option.

Perhaps Phnom Penh Cambodia (need to check with them about the visa).

Vietnam. Either the embassy in Hanoi or the consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.
