Justice Min clarifies NCPO transfer order

BANGKOK, 28 June 2016 (NNT) – The Minister of Justice has affirmed that transfers of government officials were as ordered by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) and followed due protocol.

Minister of Justice Gen Paiboon Kumchaiya has responded to the Attorney General’s office stating that a recent order from the NCPO to transfer its Natawee district attorney was an error, saying that the instruction followed the correct process.

He added that an agency inspecting the order has already confirmed it was not an error and asked that the Attorney General’s Office carry out its own inspection within 30 days. The minister said he will speak with the office to clear up the issue internally.

On the issue of student brawls, Gen Paiboon remarked that even with the application of Article 44 empowering authorities to take more serious action, the NCPO has still asked that parents and educators play a more active role in remedying the problem as authorities will not be able to police students in all cases.
