THAILAND -- A women’s rights advocacy foundation has demanded the City Hall to take disciplinary action against a garbage truck driver charged with molesting a mentally-unstable girl last year.

A group of permanent employees of the city administration led by Ms Angkhana Inthasa, head of the gender equality promotion section of the Ying-Chai Kaoklai Foundation, lodged a petition with Bangkok deputy governor Mrs Pusadee Tamthai demanding action over a molesting case which took place last November.

According to the petitioners, Sompong Kamtat, a garbage truck driver attached to Sathorn district office broke into the foundation’s home and sexually abused Ms Angkhana’s mentally disabled daughter.

A complaint was lodged with Yan Nawa police after the incident and on June 17 the suspect was arrested but freed on bail four days afterward and allowed to go back to work.

The group said they would like the city administration to mete out disciplinary against the suspect for his alleged misconduct. They also demanded that the City Hall must introduce a training course to improve the behavior and ethical standard of its staff.

The deputy governor accepted the petition for consideration and promised to look into the case.

Innocent until proven guilty however this is one situation where I think transferred to an inactive post should apply.

Well,it certainly looks as if they've trashed his career.

Shouldn't these people be taking their allegation to the RTP, or does sexual abuse not count as a criminal act in Thailand?

It's ok, she was mentally disabled so it seems it doesn't count. Arrested, bailed and straight back to work looking for his next conquest - - TIT, farang just don't understand.

Are they having a laugh? The man should be charged with sexual assault and held in prison until tried in the criminal court. SICK bustard.

There's a fair chance that there is a fat chance of jailing this guy.

Bunyin Tangphakorn gets charged with murder conspiracy, and the Phra Khanong Court grants him "temporary" release on ฿2 million bail (http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/csd-re-question-former-broker-caddy-murder-conspiracy/).

The way I see the situation is, if the people have money then the police will make an arrest and the system allows those arrested or changed to buy their way out. If a crime has been committed by someone poor, then the police have little interest unless a case gains national or international publicity then we will read how the police rushed to the scene and made an arrest within hours.

Actually.....quite an accurate statement.....many Thais have little or no regard for the disabled and mentally disabled....!

Probably because they know the RTP is hopelessly subjective about everything they do.

If the perp knows any VIP or cop or military person, then he's safeguarded against criminal charges.

...and RTP are inept.

2 posts and both indicate that you didn't bother to read the OP. Yes it is a job for the RTP, he has been charged and released on bail.

Do you really think a garbage truck driver will have sufficient wealth or political influence to avoid prosecution?
