June 30, 201610 yr May economy continues to show expansion: BOT BANGKOK, 1 July 2016 (NNT) Thailands economy in May has continued to expand from the previous month, according to the Bank of Thailand. Bank of Thailand (BOT) Senior Director Macroeconomic and Monetary Policy Department Roong Mallikamas has revealed that Thailands economy in May 2016 received good contributing factors from the expansion of the tourism sector, allowing the overall economy to expand further in a continuous motion from the previous month. She has said the aiding factors for the tourism sector include the return of Russian tourists to Thailand and the increased aviation routes made available by low cost airlines. Domestic consumption has also developed in a positive direction with a 7.8 percent expansion figure in the durable product category thanks to the unveiling of new car models and sales promotions. Thailand's household purchasing power and the agricultural sector have also recovered with a 6.7 percent positive expansion in farmers income which was the result from better produce, higher rubber prices and fewer risk factors. The export figures of May 2016 however shows 5.6 percent decline, a figure which excludes the export of gold, which is considered a to contract at a lower rate. The export of air conditioning units to ASEAN and European markets has continued to expand due to the earth's warmer climate. -- NNT 2016-07-01
June 30, 201610 yr The Thai economy has expanded, and what one has to presume are the only two positive numbers have been mentioned. But exports down again; this time 5.6% decline. Must be a slow day for good news.Tourism up, thought they don't say by how much. Odd, they normally seize on any good news by trumpeting the numbers from some high place. Maybe this is another positive expansion which only looks like a contraction? Who can fathom the Thai approach to statistics. Winnie
