Some advice please, my Chinese wife, who I met when we were both working in Bangkok, way back in 2002 owns a legal company in Bangkok, and her and I own the sister company here in China.

We spend majority of our time in China, we have a manager and staff looking after the Bangkok end, but we do visit periodically mainly for my wife to show her face and meet new customers.

My wife thinks the time is approaching where we will reverse our trend and spend more time in Thailand than in China. Now, the Thai company owns two adjoining condos in .Mong Thong Thani, they are both next to each other on the same floor, one is the registered company office, whilst the other is our residence.

My wife has a company work permit and is legally allowed to operate her company there, I as a Brit usually take advantage of the visa on arrival p.

If we should move back to spend longer time in Bangkok, can I get a dependent Visa based on my wife's situation.

I do realise this thread is a bit longer than is needed, but I wanted to explain the exact situation

If your wife has or was to get a one year extension of stay you could get an extension as her dependent. You would first need to get a non-o visa to apply for it.

Yes it's possible.

  • Your wife will first need an extension of stay based on her work. She may have one already, but if she is currently entering the country with a non 'B' visa she will need to apply for a 1 year extension of stay during the last 30 (maybe 45) days of any 90 day entry.
  • You will need to apply for a non 'O' visa to enter the country. Not sure if you'll get that in China, but you can get it in Laos/other countries. When you enter the country you'll be granted a 90 day stay and within the last 30 (maybe 45) days you apply for an extension of stay as a spouse (not dependant). You will be given permission to stay for the remainder of your wife's.
  • All extensions of stay cost 1,900 baht and you apply at your local immigration office.
  • A re-entry permit would be required for any trip to China. Single entry 1,000 baht; Multiple entry 3,800 baht.
